Great producers who didn't dj first
I love house music and electronic music however I guess my biggest insecurity is that I have never dj'd nor do I live where there is any sort of a scene... I know any time I read about my favourite producers the story is always "I djd as a teen then got into producing" Are there any good p...

using the triplet grid
Do you ever use the triplet grid when programming. I am currently trying to reverse engineer the drum programming in a song by clark called for wolves crew and I am noticing that there is a part with the typical techno offbeat shaker but the shaker hit comes 1/32 triplet before the actual offbeat (o...

Re: please provide feedback... maybe not so dubstep though
Thanks! Since I have no background as a DJ or anything, do you think I should focus on jungle type of tracks? Does it seem like my feel for arrangement is better in that area would you say?

Re: use of swing and shuffle/ making things groove
 Yeah I either play in my drums or program them with snap turned off and just naturally put them off the grid wherever they should be. Usually every other eighth note will be a little bit late and every second sixteenth note will be a little later than that. Exactly how syncopated it is depends on t...

use of swing and shuffle/ making things groove
When it comes to allot of the "post dub step", garage stuff etc like Zomby, pangaea, pariah, disclosure etc, What sort of tricks are being implemented to give the drums that bouncy swing in general? Is it as simple as laying down a pattern, adjust some velocities of the hits and then turn ...

Does anyone mix/ produce with a subwoofer?
Feeling the bass is really my main concern here as I love to listen to tracks in my car and I notice how with lots of stuff like burial, boards of canada etc you can just feel those subs right in your stomach when driving around with the system cranked..... Do you think in the case of those producer...

Re: suggest headphones: want bass to translate well
Thanks for the help everyone I just bought Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro's. I know they are a bit boosted in the Hi's but none the less I could feel the low end better on these than any of the others we mentioned even the 880's (which are more flat). The 990s are open so the stereo field is quite insane, ...

suggest headphones: want bass to translate well
I need to get some better headphones I have been using sony 7506 which are more for monitoring and my mixes lack good bass as well as stereo width. I do not need closed headphones I am in my basement studio and it doesnt matter if sound bleeds through. I do have monitors (ikey m505) but no sub so th...

Re: Modern dynamic sub bass technique
 It won't be as obvious if it's not keyed with a regular pulse. But it can result in breathing swelling basslines. Most of the effect you're describing is done with automation though. Any idea how this would fit into someones workflow? Would the bass even be "played" by hand in this case? ...
