Re: Are you happy with your music?
I myself, along with many other musicians have the musicians curse. Nothing is ever complete and everything sounds like shit. There is a point when making music that you have to just let it go. Otherwise you'll never release a song. With that being said I usually hate my track when I first make it,...

Re: Zomboy Copy Cat of the Year
On topic - I don't see anything wrong with using samples or presets or whatever if you can make something worthwhile. For some people (myself included) it's a learning experience and how else should one start? I'm not particularly great or even good at sound design but I learned what I know through ...

Question on EQ cutting or shelving
In FL studio's parametric EQ2 I've seen others take the first band (low shelf), bring it down all the way, then move to where they want to cut. The practice I use is to make the first band a high pass and move to where desired. Does my way cut out too many frequencies? Does the first method keep eno...

Question on definition of "brostep"
Forgive my ignorance but is brostep used as a derogatory term? To me, this is a fairly new term to which I don't fully understand.

Re: My first release!
I probably don't have the right to make any comments (since I'm still new to the game) but I think there's room for improvement. The transitions were nice. I think you should work on your mixdown a bit more. I could be wrong but I think the drums were a little buried under the synths, which were a l...

Re: Tracks sound distant
They are constantly in the forefront, let them have a breather (and some filtering). A lot of the time people will reach for compressors/limiters to try to make things louder in the mix, but something that is far too overlooked is to simply turn the other things down instead. I'm still kind of a la...

Re: Tracks sound distant
All excellent points. Thank you all for your input. The reverb and delay is use is very sparingly, same with compression. I use the multiband compressor to raise the overall volume but I believe the compressors are bypassed. I use a mastering preset and tweak from there, as I don't completely unders...

Tracks sound distant
Hello everyone my name is Dave and I am brand new to the forums. I have been making music for about 6 months, so please be gentle with the criticism. I use FL studio. Now for my question. When I decide I'm finished with the track I do the normal routine consisting of exporting .wav normalizing, addi...
