Re: KDrew - Last Train to Paradise (Talksik Remix) Need ever

Vocals in the intro are a little quiet and burried in the mix. I really like the drop but it just sounds like it's missing something. Maybe adding a little white noise in the background or a quiet detuned saw playing the root note would help to make it sound a little more full.

Re: UMEA - 42 Ohm

Love it! I'm a sucker for good sound design and all of your sounds are really good. I agree with you that the bass could use a boost. To make mixing easier, if I were you I would low cut the sub frequencies out of all the basses, and layer a sub underneath everything that follows the automations of ...

Re: Aranha & Particle - Homeward (Glitchy/Melodic/140)

Feeling this man :D Really like the chord progression and the array of string sounds. Before the first drop all the glitchy sounds I personlly feel come through a little strong in the mix, they're a real nice touch but sound a bit too overpowering for me. Otherwise a damn good use of sampling :Q: T...

When does "minimal" become too simple?

With the rising popularity of minimalistic, atmospheric tracks, I'd like to ask for your opinions on where you draw the line between simplicity as an artistic choice and a track just being lazy and over simplistic. Some of my favorite songs use silence as a way to build tension and atmosphere. One o...

Re: Opinions on sticking to 'your sound' vs experimentation

It probably makes more commercial sense. But I'm more in the 'do what you feel' camp and fuck off all the extra aliases. Haha yeah I understand that, but if you're making big changes in genre I think aliases are the way to go. Look at skream, took so much flack for his decision, compared to say...H...

Re: Opinions on sticking to 'your sound' vs experimentation

Different alias is best imo. Doesn't upset any of the fans. Yeah, I've definitely thought of this before. It's one solution, but trying different genres with the same alias isn't always necessarily a bad thing. I know I've had those moments before where I'm like "No way! [Artist Name] made an ...

Re: EightySeven - Untitled (Original Mix) [Unsigned]

There's not a whole lot for me to say that hasn't already been said. I love that screechy synth that slides up right before the drop :)
This is one of the best tracks I've heard here in my opinion

Re: Six Chakra - Finger 2 The Law (Feedback please)

Drums sound crisp. Basses are dirty and heavy. Percussion isn't too obnoxious and fits well with the rest of the track. I think the vocals could use a volume boost though

Opinions on sticking to 'your sound' vs experimentation

Ok, so I listen to all kinds of music and am constantly discovering new styles of music that I end up loving. Seeing as pretty much every producer has a certain sound or style unique to them (i.e. you can tell a Xilent track apart from anything else almost instantly) what is your opinion on sticking...

Re: That 'first' Dubstep song that got you into the genre?

I'm gonna go ahead and say that I was sucked in by my cousin introducing me to Skrillex. I know how stereotypical that must sound, and I'll admit that. But Scary Monsters was honestly the first dubstep track I ever heard. I'm glad that I got sucked in because once I actually started digging around a...

Re: Dubstep.net

I don't bother much with the website, but I follow them on soundcloud and don't mind sifting through some of the generic crap to find some quality tunes by talented artists. Most of the tracks are free downloads too, so that's nice.

Re: How do you guys approach layering up your drums?

Well I usually have a punchy kick drum layered with a more clicky kick that has more high end. I'll low cut the punchy kick to take out the sub frequencies and low cut the clicky kick a lot more so it doesn't interfere with the first kick. As far as snares go, I usually layer 2 or 3, EQ and compress...
