What if you want a snappy snare without reverb? Common, this should be a serious thread. Just saying reverb doesn't make a shit snare good.

The snares are not really a problem in dubstep. It's the hihats which can cause headaches as they provide the feeling of pace/speed together with the bassline.

I always tend to say learning by doing and it definitely helps! Load Logic, have the manuals ready and just do it! Don't be ashamed to use any tool. In the end of the day, it's only a tool. You might be able to produce things which sound amazing. It's not the tool which limits you, it's yourself. Th...

Just found out that it only affects wav files - mp3's are ok!

Good point. The samples I'm trying to use are 16000Hz 16Bit Mono! I will try that, thanks!

Logic 8: Sample speed extremely high

I don't know what happened but all my wav samples won't play on their normal speed anymore in Logic 8. If I want to pre-listen or use them in a audio track, they play so fast it sounds very high pitched. If I play the files in iTunes, they sound find though. Any ideas?

I was playing with the thought but since we use Serato I just don't see the point anymore. It works extremely well without delay, it feels like proper vinyl too and sounds as good as your mixdown. The only thing is that you won't have a professional engineer.

nope-- you can LOAD your own samples, sure, but you can't build a kit with multiple, velocity-layered samples on one pad; it'll only read ones from the ultrabeat presets, where it saves the velocity layers as a .ubs file or something similar. if you want to build a real kit, like pretty much 99% oth...

you can use your keyboard to trigger Ultrabeat, no problem. my only complaint w/ UB is it's inability to layer home-built samples. otherise, its' synthesis engine and filtering is really great. Yes, I know you can use your keyboard, but come on, that's not the same feel as an MPC or real keyboard! ...

Ultrabeat rules. The kick sounds are so solid and the amount of tweaking you can do to every sound is crazy. Yeas, it's quite good but there is some stuff I'm missing: If you create a pattern and drag that into the arranger, you can't drag it back into Ultrabeat to add in more things in the step se...

Check where you are bouncing to or use spotlight to search for that bounce. The default location I think is Logic/Bounces and the default filename is Output 1-2.

Yes, that's another option indeed, but then you lose the ability to make changes to it, as it will be a wav/aiff file.

Not really, no. I usually layer a couple of snares or use a synth to generate some noise/fuzz/oomph to put under and eq it. I'm getting tired of sampled kicks and snares anyway and use more and more synthesis to create percussion instruments. It's quite hard and time consuming though.

I don't entirely get what you want to do but I assume you want to use the "glue tool" within the arrange window: Select the tracks you would like to merge/glue together to one track, select the glue tool (upper left corner) and click on any of the selected tracks. Is that it what you meant?

I run Logic Express 8 on a Macbook (Intel) and it works quite fine. I still need to get used to it, it's quite a beast, even in the Express version. Still don't really know what I should do in what tool! I can't stand it that you have to print out the handbook by yourself.
