i think bass is very important in any form of music. it's a range in the sonic spectrum that is there to be manipulated like any other. just cos you can't find a way to use it that fits your style at the moment doesn't mean you need to give up on it. as mentioned, ramadanman is a great exmaple of us...

Yeah mate. Lots of corporations are fuckers, standards, but there are plenty of people who aren't corperations making sick plugins. In fact, lots of my favourite plugs are a 1 or 2 man operation. Obviously it's not my place to tell people what to do, but I definitely feel sorry for some of these guy...

Dunno man, it's always a hard one to play, cos djs are partly responsible for turning your sound into something that means something outside of your own bedroom. But at the same time if you only think about djs when you're making tunes you're not gonna be true to yourself. I guess it's about finding...

As for the polyrythm reference, before "Bury the Bwoy" i dont think i'd ever heard kicks used in those places in dubstep. yeah I know what exactly you're saying, despite many other tracks having polyrhythmic elements, Bury was novel in it's application - with magical results. But hey, I'm...

actually that was me being silly and misreading him. It was meant as the birth of polyrhythm within the dubstep scene specifically.

Probably still not entirely accurate though.

Very enjoyable read, and well written for the most part, but the line about Bury Da Bwoy being 'the birth of polyrhythm' is just plain silly.

first time for me last year, I agree that the actual sonar party is waaay too massive to really lose yourself in. Although having said that, it's probably worth going once just for the spectacle of it all (especially at the end when everyone is leaving, it's like being an extra in a bad zombie movie...

I think it's about a nice polyrhythmic balance. I like having the tune grounded in standard 4/4, (i.e the kick/main hi hats or something), and then using this base to play around with some elements in different time signatures and with odd (i.e. not 1, 2 or 4) loopings. I think it's very fun shit to...

ok i've been playing around a bit today trying to get that trentemoller sound. basically i think it's just really really clever use of spatial and positioning effects such as delay, reverb and panning on well chosen pieces of sound.

that trentemoller sound is fucking brilliant. i think it's definitely some kind of delay. though i don;t think it's any specific delay in particular, I think it's just the way he is using it. which I would guess is delaying little flecks of sound as you say... using a whole lot of detailed automatio...

anything with a personality that you like and can exploit to make good sounds is a winner. hardware or software is neither here nor there I don;t think. me personally I only use software (apart from a casio sa-20, best £1 I ever spent on gear), and pretty much only use synthesis. there's something t...
