Re: Gonna expand my software/hardware

Two things will really improve your setup (from my perspective):

The Adams - once I got monitors it dramatically improved my music making... and

A Moog Slim Phatty - $799 so it fits your budget nicely, and gives you that deep analog sound to complement all those softsynths! Plus you already have ...

Moog Slim Phatty

http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2010/10 ... specs.html

I'm very interested in this, a rackmount Little Phatty with no keyboard for $799 - just announced. Does anyone here use a Little Phatty for dubstep? What are your experiences with it for bass etc.?

You can delete all the Apple Loops and other bullshit, they're a huge waste of disk space. Keep it minimal. Blank slate.

There are so many good ones!

CamelCrusher by Camel Audio is very solid, use it alot

Vinyl by Izotope for a different flavor, not technically distortion tho

Degrade by mda is a better Bitcrusher than Apple's, although I use them both

All of these are free... if you want to spend I'm sure the ...

Sound designers often use a mix of manipulated recordings and processing... see for example this video about how the sound designer created the original Star Wars lightsabers' buzz/hum noises.

So maybe the "transforming" sound is like a recording of a washing machine or motor or turbine or anything ...

Ugh... I refuse to install Real Player on my computer, it always crashes or gets fucked up somehow. Would anyone mind summarizing the main points or uploading an MP3 of it? Thanks in advance. :D

Sure, sorry for the oblivion. Are you offering to do it?
I don't know if my knowledge of AUs is that comprehensive. I still use Logic 7 on a 1.3.9 Mac... I've got the plugs I like and don't really try to get new ones. :D

What about free AU linkage as well? Show some love to the Logic users in the forum...

For example, www.kvraudio.com has loads of both AUs and VSTs.

So that article advocates a potential third way:

comp -> EQ -> comp

...with the first compressor working hard, and second compressor just catching any stray peaks caused by the EQ but otherwise being pretty transparent - a limiter would work just as well there probably.

What Chewie said also ...

The Ohmforce site also has a free filter called the Fromhage that's a scaled down version of the Quad... well worth a dl, it's quality and can do some interesting things...

Yeah, Superskank is really excellent. It's reminds me of a perfectly constructed, super-precise machine, each part of the rhythm like an interlocking gear.

Hardware or software?

You can dl and demo this for free: http://www.filterscape.com/
Lots of ppl on the Logic forum like it... it's VST too.

For hardware you'll want to look at this:
http://www.analoguehaven.com/sherman/
One of the great filters of all time... totally insane, MIDI controllable, &c.
