also try using a gate on your hats or drum loops at extreme settings this gives a nice choppy rhythmic fee-and helps keep the drum layer(s) clean.

The link given above by pushre as a good delay,it sounds a bit rough to me ,but that may be desirable-also Ohmforce's Ohmboyz is useful.
If you have the cash you can not beat one of the Space eko's from Roland.
Also the tape delay in Logic is nice.

Git down to your freindly local graveyard for some excellent burial type samples-all your favs ,such as 'ashes to ashes ,dust to dust'-'shovel,shovel,bury ,bury-'Christ ,its hot in here'-and 'Sh*t,I think they got the wrong guy'.

Why is 'He' a sinister shadowy siloette-perhaps that mutant virus bass at Hyperdub,as done something hideous with 'His' features-maybe it's something to do with sample clearence-I mean ,whats 'He' gonna do when The Wire come calling for 'Him' for their cover star-look the other way like Kode9 did :D

What vocal samples are you talking about above?
I dont think its sharpening knives ,but the sound of a firearm being cocked-y'now for that true South London vibe-even tho that should go-stab,stab,squelch-guess it just has'nt got the same percussive attack.
