I'm getting pretty sick of the standard dubstep beat with the snare on the 9th beat, what happened to that old skool dubstep with the sped up ragga beat? Does anyone still make that, any artists I should look for? I really miss that old dubstep sound, stripped back with crisp steppy beats and ...

I find old dub/reggae tracks are a goldmine for these sounds. Look for solos/breakdowns. The advantage of this is they come with their own analogue grittyness.

FL Studio makes shite MP3's! I suggest exporting a wav then using soundforge or wavelab, etc to master then MP3 it.

^^ Good point, I been using one for pretty much all my home mastering just because I thought that was the done thing. Subtlety is the key though. If you compress anything too hard it will sound shitty.

I've done a lot more work on this, got rid of some un-needed flab and tightened it up. The old link still works so there's a comparison. The new version was rendered from FL studio as seperate channels and mixed down in cubase.

My one hangup with FL is still the sound quality of the mixer which is why I still use Cubase for the final mixdown. The difference in quality is quite noticable. Cubase just sounds solid. I thought FL had sorted it out with version 7 but no, it's still got that thin sound.

^^ That would work. Most dubstep these days is half time so it is essentially around 68-70bpm. Double that and you get 136-140.

fl7 has made sequencing sooo much easier. Don't have to use the crappy pattern sequencer at all now, u make your patterns into clips and arrange them in the same horizontal track.
