Ben Frost snarls.
Do any of you ever listen to Ben Frost? He's an icelandic ambient composer. His music is largely beatless and often without melody, but stunningly beautiful... and he has the most incredible snarling bass sounds I've ever heard. Puts all the brostep I've ever heard to shame. I'm not really asking ...

Nice variety in bass sounds here man, but I think the snare needs more high end. It doesn't really cut through the mix enough IMO.

Maybe an expander might work a bit. They more or less make sounds which are already loud louder and sounds which are quiet quieter don't they?

Man, kleptocratic is a great word. So great that Google Chrome doesn't even think it is a word. I will use that in arguments to sound more intelligent than I am.

I'd love to play properly live but I haven't a clue how to go about it. Also using Reaper

The sound you mentioned at 1.13 sound like a processed Xylophone sample to me
I'm not sure if we're talking about the same sound man. The one I mean starts at 1:33 and is used almost like a snare, and played for both very short and slightly longer durations fairly often in each measure. It sounds ...

Re: Bedroom Community
Man, Ben Frost is just unreal. I really thought By The Throat was maybe the best album of 09. In terms of raw aggresive snarl-power, it puts 99.999% of dubstep to shame. And in a really artistic and genuinely moving fashion. Love up Sam Amidon and Nico Muhly too. Valgir Sigurdson is not so hot ...

Haha no worries man. While you're here, that tune in your sig is well cool. The kick is quite reverby isn't it? How do you get that to sit well with the bass? Just cunning eq?

This is pretty sick man. That buzzy bass sound at 2:59 is rude.

Perc sounds which aren't actually drums
The other day I was listening to Murcof, and he uses a lot of percussion sounds which aren't really much like any real percussion instrument. An example is in the tune below - the sound first heard at roughly 1:33 which has an almost wood-blockish quality to the attack, but then a metallic sort of ...

M-Audio Keystation Pro 88
88-note fully weighted keyboard. over 60 buttons, knobs and faders. Near mint condition. Some minor cosmetic damage. Still has the plastic thing on the screen, so you get the ultimate satisfaction of peeling that off too. 150 quid maybe.
Buyer collect, near Brixton.

Re: Flay Knight - London Tube
This tune is sweet man. I really like the buzzy bass sound. Maybe it could use a bit more variation in the arrangement though. I like that there are lots of little edits, but it'd be cool if there were more different parts of the tune, more of a progression. Production is sick though. Also, I really ...

Berghain Techno (ish) tune
My first attempt at this airy techno sound after becoming obsessed with Len Faki, especially his Dustin Zahn Remix. Feedback much appreciated.
Also, I'm really not so hot on the end bit of mixing so it's a bit quiet.

Re: Aaron Shallow - Ping Pong [broken techno]
Love the 4/4 drop around 3 minutes in. Really nice burbling synth sound as well. Almost reminds me of final fantasy VII music (Which is definitely a good thing).
