I think it is good to seperate the program being used (from cubase to wavelab) and helps me to change my creative hat. I think it sounds better aswell when mastering in wavelab plus wavelab 7 is just amazing ...

1.) Rhythm
1.) Melody
2.) Interaction with other percussive and or musical elements
3.) Movement (phasing, modulation, filtering), Fills/variation
4.)Progression
Then last
5.) Phat mix /presence/harmonics

Your never going to get it sounding spot on unless you have the presets and exact settings for the bass... You can get close tho.. it is a good exercise to learn from.

its all about fundemental frequency. Find a snare that hits in the right area your looking for (200hz) and boost the crap out of it

Nuendo is as close to cubase 4 as u will get.

It includes control room. Cubase 3 does not have control room.

Control room is handy because u can manage dif outputs to A/B and have a fader that is seperate ffrom the master fader ...
