I don't think it's a misunderstanding at all really. In fact, the vocal-less b-side dub you are talking about comes directly from Dub music culture in Jamaica. It migrated over to Hip Hop, House, etc. later on with b-side, mainly vocal-less mixes in the 80's.

The only issue I have with the increasingly expansive label of 'dubstep' is the connection to the word 'dub' tends to get lost a bit ... I personally enjoy a wide variety of styles within the dubstep/bass/garage genre(s)... but when I get a request by someone to play some 'dub', I'll throw some King ...

if you are considering Massive or Absynth, you should go with NI's Komplete Synth bundle. For $399, you get both Massive and Absynth along with FM8 and Pro 53. All full versions, complete with user manuals. It's a far better deal than buying them individually.

I have Trilogy too and I love it...but ...

yeah, atmosphere is well worth it in my opinion. you can do lots of internal mixing and layering of patches to keep things interesting for years. it's definitely an aptly named sample-synth... it's extremely good at creating atmospheres and moods. it even has a somewhat small section of bass and ...

it's a little pricey, but, Atmosphere is a nice sample/synth instrument for pads and atmospheric sound scapes. worth the price in my opinion, have owned it for about 4 or 5 years and haven't grown tired of it's sounds
