The faderfox is only a 'control surface' - it transmits midi messages from the crossfader, buttons, switches etc. It connects via midi to an interface/synth rather than direct to a computer by usb/firewire.

I use a Faderfox DJ 2 midi mixer with Traktor - works a treat for me, lots of control, solid, compact too.

It isn't a midi/audio interface though so you'll need one of those if you don't already have one

do mixers, as in dj mixers, act as soundcards?

so i could use one instead of the internal mixer in traktor, and plug my headphones into the mixer and not my pc for cueing?

edit: what mixer would you recomend a, behringer vmx100??

you need a soundcard / interface with 2 pairs of stereo outs in order to cue music in the headphones separately. In the settings menu you can specify one pair of outs to 'master' and the other pair to 'cue', then select which deck to cue through the phones from the button on each mixer channel ...

I have done it before where I just high pass the tune a bit and then hide other parts of the song with my own sounds. It also requires your tune to match the key / chord progression but I think you would want that anyway so the vocals make sense musically.

Why not buy some digital releases, download the demo for Ableton or Traktor and 'spin' off your MBP. Certainly would be a quick way of getting up and running. You can run loads of effects from within ...

Been trying to emulate something similar to the bass sound you got in 'The Strength' recently but not managed it. Got other nice sounding things along the way but not achieved my goal. Any tips on that one?

I found the Pioneers really easy to use - first time I played on them for 20-30 mins then straight to a club and played a set on them. Solid bits of kit too.

Never used Serato so can't comment on that.
