Re: Renoise - what makes it so special?
Standout features for me are -
Stable as fuck, has never crashed of its own accord.
Very CPU friendly too.
Really tight timing through a midi interface.
Open source Tool API means stacks of add ons for extra features. If something is missing you can probably script it yourself...

Re: FSOL - Papua New Guinea Remix Parts / Stems?
i had the computer music samples and they sounded like copies as i recall.
they definitely weren't the full stems at any rate.
the main samples are off actual tunes anyway...

Re: Help with Phasers and Flangers
^^^
Phasing isn't basically EQing at all. (except for the comb filter effect you can get)
Anyway you could try doubling your patch and automating the pitch on one copy slightly, this'll give you manual control over phasing/flanging sounds

niceone for the motivational words, i've been in the studio though trust me, just letting the beats pile up until the time comes to make a selection and drop some.
it's all jungle atm though i gotta say, if you check the Keysound podcasts you'll catch some of the collection so far.

So true IMO!Sharmaji wrote: 9 times out of 10 though, if you're looking to widen a sound, your basic L-R sample delay sounds better than any of this malarkey.

Re: Extracting single sounds from audio
There's software called Photosounder that converts sound to image and can be edited in that form.
Really detailed sound isolation is possible but it's not for the faint hearted.

Re: FL Stereo Shaper on drums?
Check your mix in mono. If it goes to shit, you're not doing the track any favours.
You're introducing the possibility of phase cancellation so IMO best left alone.
(I haven't checked the track btw, sorry.)

Re: How to make 'Mala - Jah Power' sound?
You want a synth with a self oscillating filter (tal noisemaker is good and free)
Turn all the oscs off except a white noise generator.
Turn the res right up, set the cut to taste and sweep it with an envelope.
Should be in the ball park, use filter feedback or saturation to roughen it up, obviously ...
