Re: "there's a simplicity to beat programming"

i tend to put more focus on developing existing sounds/themes before adding new sounds. when i first started, whilst making a track if it ever got boring i would another sound. by the time the tune was finished it was many layered complex thing. but if you ever stripped it back to a few elements it ...

Re: FUCKING ABLETON AUTOMATION!!!

also i'll add in case you don't notice, if you turn the grid off you can draw the automation in freehand rather then it making blocks (took me a while to notice that.

i tend to just record it in though unless i want precision (which is rare)

Re: Making Your Own Sample Packs

indeed it would be hard to sell on unless you are a relativley well known producer. If its a collection of sounds and what not I tink peeps are always up for a bit some free sounds. i beleive if you are not well known and want to sell samples. they would need to have special qualities. like being re...

Re: king tubby style delays?

therses a pritty good emulation of the space echo on the reaktor user library if you use that. never going to be as good as the real thing but it does the job. dub station is also a good dubby delay but its hard to get the splashy king tubby sound out of it. still its in permanent use in my set up j...

Re: Should you roll off your sub at 30 or just leave it?

i find that its hard to know until I have tride it both ways. when my tune feels to heavy in the bottom end i roll off somwhere around there and it seems to make the tune out nicely. somtimes when i do it my tune lozes something so I get rid of the filter. other times i can't hear any difference at ...

Re: Prominent (and less obvious) elements of love tunes.

for me i would say its a tricky one without words. i think instrumentals can make you feel or exress root emotions very well but its hard to get accross the details. like you could be sad coz you have just split up with your misses. Without words the track would say to you that the writter is sad, b...

Re: how to make pads more sinister

i like to make a pad sound in my synth using lots of oscilators and filters n shit. but heres the trick, in making the pad sound rather then making long evoling filter modlutions a make fast jaggedy ones and make sure they are moving in the high range. i also add a bit of waveshaping after the fitle...

Re: how long does it normally take you to start and finish?

indeed, i have started doing that over the last few weeks and it certainly has helped. get stuff sounding right is where i fall short, but ive taken a few months out to do naught but sound design and harddrive tidying. so who knows maybe my next set of tunes will happen quicker. but anyhow no worrie...

Re: how long does it normally take you to start and finish?

takes me ages to do tunes. normaly 2 to three months if i get them finished. takes me the best part of a day to get my a drum beat made or a bass patch programed and sequnced. couldn't even begin to contemplate making a tune in a day. wish i could to be honest not getting nearly enough done at the ...

Re: DSF Q&A Sessions 10 : CYRUS (open for questions)

Hello cheers for doin the q and a,

Could you breifly describe your work flow, like what order you do things in?

and also do you design sounds and source samples as you go along or do you get them together before starting a tune off?

cheers,

i love resampling, partly for the wriggly lines, they look nicer then boring old midi, but it also alows you to change up stuff, like if you have made a crazy bad ass modulated riff groove thingy. you can chop it up into bits and re-order/reverse bits for added changeableness. squicker then reprogra...

start writing a new tune with the sounds that you are using for the tune that you are on. then find a way to combine the two.

its good to get the raw creativness going again I find.
