god loves ugly was a great album but i've grown tired of atmosphere, mostly due to their beats

for example the new wu track.. it would have been playing 24/7 on mtv if it had come out 15 years ago.. but could a track with such a relatively pure hip-hop sound become a hit today?

in skreams version the main beat should've dropped 2-3 mins earlier imo.. female vocals like these are a guarantee for mainstream success, this could easily become a club anthem (with the beat playing more, cause right now its too chill).

But Illmatic is most noted not for Nas' main dude who made beats (The ever inessential LES), but for all the Premo, Pete Rock, Q-Tip and whomever else cuts. In a way, it set the tone for producers going maverick and just pitching out their beats to anyone with money, which stifled a lot of ...

It's hard to judge Eminem by his singles. The dude is possibly one of the few cases of a 90's underground guy becoming one of THE biggest stars in MUSIC. And who hasn't made drastic changes in his style to be populist and endearing to "The community".
