Agree with Yong, harmonic mixing is really important. Every track I get, I note down the key as soon as possible, so I don't have to remember it. Meh, equipment. You can use the vocoder as a basic frequency analyser in Reason. Put the mixer/synth/whatever output into the modulation input of the vocoder.
