I'd also do a recording engineering course, but imo that is less useful than understanding the fundemental concepts of signals and signal flow.

As a recording engineer, one of the first things (and possibly THE most important things in studio engineering) you would have to learn is signal flow ...

Agreed.

I spent the best part of £6000 studying at SAE in London years back. I believe the amount these places charge to learn a very specialized set of skills is extortionate in ratio to the level at which they teach, although I ...

The Reason Drum Packs are fine. Admittedly, there are some ropey sounding hits. My advice is:

1: Layers them snares (I generally use 2 to 4) and play with EQ to make 'em sound sweeeet.

2: Smash some Scream Distortion on your break (I like to keep the kick clean and affect most of the other parts ...

Data recovery is very expensive!!

Doubt you will have any luck tbh.

can be like £300 for a decent size HD.

Also normally all the file names and shit will be missing, so for music project is pretty useless, unless you know the file structure from the HD, which i doubt.

It sux hard, but i went ...

There are over-the-counter drops that will do the trick, but going to the dr's office will get it done faster and be more thorough...the OTC drops take a couple of days to work, and doesn't do as good of a job. Things will definitely sound 'tinny' and loud for a while, but that's just because all ...

I saw/heard the Aba Shanti I sound system last year and had earplugs in for the whole 3 hour set.

There were people next to the speaker stacks with nothing. My bet is serious tinnitus is now their friend!

Disgusting...

After years of production and DJ'ing I noticed recently that my hearing recently sounded a little 'muffled'.

So off I went to the quacks and got my lug-holes syringed! Not the nicest of experiences and the shit that came out was shocking considering I keep my ears in good nick, but the results are ...

Re: Old-school timestretching

I've been listening to Timeless by Goldie a lot, and trying to look into how he produced it.

Rob Playford

Goldie produced very little of his own early work. The man behind most of it was Rob Playford.

My 2 fave tracks off Timeless are A Sense Of Rage VIP, awesome ...

Make a redrum for each type of drum sound you will be using, kicks, snares etc then just build up the beat in reasons sequencer.

Err, why? Redrum has 10 Channels and 10 outputs. You can have 1 Redrum for your whole kit and patch each channel into the 14:2 mixer which is much easier to control ...

Right.

1: To make multiple patterns, you select the letter bank 1st ( eg A to D ), then click on the number bank ( eg 1 to 8 ). This gives you ( 4 x 8 = ) 32 pattern banks. But use the sequencer instead. The Redrum one is cack.

2: The phase issue is because you're playing from the Redrum itself ...

A: Try something different! If you're train of thought is hindering your progress in producing something, then throw in a few random samples and mash them to get a whole new sound and feel going. (I recently did this and it's cleared my writers block that I had for 2 months!).

B: Log off from DSF ...

The drum kits in the Reason Factory Sound Bank has some awesome samples in there.

Chuck a bundle of effects and EQ at them, and you're in there like swimwear.

I recycle a lot of drum hits from my previous tracks, but very slight changes in EQ and a different effect on them changes the whole timbre ...

Just use white noise, maybe filter it a bit to take out some of the top end (reduce the harshness of it), and smack on some effects and EQ, then use pitch to change the timbre as you approach the drop.

Bosh.

Done.
