Re: Kuedo (Jamie Vex'd) - Severant [Planet Mu]
Can't wait, his two EPs have been some of the best stuff I've heard this year. Been an amazing progression since the early Vex'd stuff, looking forward to hearing where he goes next.

Re: Your Top 5 METAL
Ron Jarzombek is a total genius - actually you just reminded me about his article on tonality, might be worth experimenting with his ideas in my music and see how it turns out, could be a production post in there: http://www.ronjarzombek.com/rj12tone.html

Re: Your Top 5 METAL
This is pretty tough to decide. I listen to a lot less metal than I used to before dubstep entered my life, but these are the bands that stick with me, in no particular order:
1.Converge: Sums up the emotional core of metal for me really, these guys know how to put all your nasty emotions into ...

Re: Best producer/track name?
I think Distance is a pretty great name, simple but effective. NOISIA is pretty neat once you know the gimmick, same with Reso - he wanted free publicity by having his name as a parameter for every filter out there, haha. I'm quite proud of myself for coming up with my name too!

While we're on the subject, has anyone here had much luck using vocoder VSTi's in FL Studio? Is it even possible, since you've somehow got to route in audio and midi through it?prime|evil wrote:I heard they used one of them text2voice programmes. Don't quote me on that though.

Re: so next level, it HURTS
I love reactable :D you know the makers give out the video captureing software free (theres an easy tut on how to make it work on reasen, so a camera facing down over paper shapes can be assigned to cutoff, adsr and so forth) BUT the projection side of it (where the circles and lines are projected ...

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011
oprs - Nice work so far, pretty different sounding track, I like the variation you've got going on. The little fade bit seems kinda rough, it drops down too quiet then gets loud too quickly. Also there are parts that seem kind of dissonant, like the bass and melody aren't forming any sort of harmony ...

Open up massive get 3 saws all detuned at around -24 semitones (obv play around e2)
then open up another massive and get 3 more saws. one detuned around 0 semitones and the others detuned around -12

Re: frustrated making bass
With regards to your problems with frequency splitting using filters, I'd recommend using a multiband compressor to do this instead - put an instance on each channel and solo the lows/mids/highs (although I'd agree with you on just keeping the lows as a straight sine). Someone else can do the ...

I always have little melodies I've made up playing in my head all day, then completely forget them after blasting out other tunes in the car on the commute home. Thinking of investing in one of those little sequencer apps for my phone so I can pop off for a toilet break and write them down...

Re: Main sub genres ?
I hate when people call my dubstep "chill" I guess I understand that but it's the type of music that turns into a monster with the right room/rig combo. That said, knowing most of the setups in Pittsburgh I do understand why you mostly hear the bro.

Really inspiring stuff - love a bit of controllerism. The bit that kicks in around 30 secs is immense, what tune is that you've mangled into submission?

I think Abz was speaking about all the atmospheric, film-score esque stuff, guys. Not Emo in the literal sense.
Nope I have no issue with Atmospheric, remember where I am America Fuck Yeah!
I am actually referring to this which unfortunately imo will be the future of dubstep here. Please kill me ...

Re: fx for electro style mid range bass
Been gravitating towards this sort of bassline for a while now, my advice would definitely be to experiment with FM Synthesis. Get a synth like FM8, Sytrus or Operator, start off with a square wave and try modulating it with sine waves, either at the same pitch as the original square or at octaves ...
