I started out on FL Studio and it's still what I use.

ACID confused the hell out of me and I haven't spent enough time to learn Ableton Live, Reason, or Cubase. You could also be like Burial and work exclusively in Sound Forge.

I really only listen to industrial metal, sludge, and black metal. Black metal isn't really supposed to have a loud bottom range as it would take away from the wall of buzzing guitars. Industrial metal and sludge are all about the bottom end though so I guess I'd never noticed a decline in basslines...

I recommend you check out Clubroot. If ever there was something I'd call ambient dubstep it would be his work. You'll have quite a time downloading it, so I recommend just buying it.
