idiot burns clothes; somehow world continues turning

Post by mos dan » Wed Sep 13, 2006 1:10 pm

"Six months ago, I began writing a blog entitled bonfireofthebrands.com. I announced on the site that I was going to destroy every branded item in my possession, having concluded that I was suffering from an addiction to the status and aspirations surrounding brands. As a former editor of youth lifestyle magazines, I had caught a glimpse of the inner workings of advertising and marketing, and found some practices distasteful. Furthermore, I felt rather cheap that I had used my position to champion these brands, almost as if they were gods. So in order to cleanse this addiction and highlight some concerns surrounding advertising and consumerism, I vowed to burn all my stuff and start again, brand free."

Neil Boorman, former editor of Sleaze, self-important, cynical Sugartown hypocrite extraordinaire.

who me? i'm not going anywhere. but i am a bit confused.

that quote is from boorman's article in the guardian about his *yawn* eye-opening stunt. he's gone from one extreme to the other though, yeah, except i'd argue his latest stunt is just as cynical as anything he did with sleaze or in that pillow fight club business...

Haha. I completely miss read everything. I thought you'd writen it. :7:
From what i read, he does seem to have missed the boat in regards to riling against consumerism. His conclusions are really basic. It felt like listening to a very nieve 15 year old at a party who's really supprised and pissed off with the world.
yes, his funemental point is valied, but it's put across in such a weak way it makes reading it a "little" borring. HE seems to have polarosed every one into either a totel consumer or a complete rebel who who has oppted out of society all together. He doesn't seem to make room for the fact that a lot of people can live life in a happy mediem and not be led by there noses by corperations and brands.

SORRY FOR THE MIS-UNDERSTANDING

no worries!

yeah all about happy mediums right here.

*another* thing wrong with this stunt (i have a whole list) is that there was some performance artist dude, he used to go out with tracy emin and identified himself as a 'stuckist' - well, anyway he basically destroyed all his worldly possessions a few years ago as a protest against/comment on materialism.

so boorman's not even being original in his twattery.
