I can understand WHY people use it but personally I go for Reaktor / FM8.. NI do make beastly pieces of kit though.
So you're saying Massive uses more cpu than a ensemble with the same functionality and sound as massive in reaktor? Really?

Albino3, FM8 & Sculpture > Massive
Massive has sine, square, saw + tri oscillators and they are named as such; evidentally you;ve never used it.
Albino3, FM8 & Sculpture > Massive? Ever tried wavetable synthesis in any of those synths? Never used sculpture but Absynth & FM8 are in no way better than Massive, they're different.

Upgrade your computer, I'm on a 6750 and find it hard to get close to 50% usage before I've moved on. Have you tried updating Massive to a more recent version?

My friend has a Phenom 9950 and I can tell you that you're nowhere near the truth. His system has no performance issues whatsoever in regards to "multimedia".

I don't think Massive sounds clean though. I can hear all kinds of artifacts and other digital nastiness, and that is what I'm liking.

From last nights twiddling, I think I may not be using it for subs, but then again maybe I will, I wasn't looking around down there too much.
What artifacts can you hear? I thought I could hear something in the upper region that seemed to shift around a lot and kind of reminded me of lossless compression (mp3 etc). Massive isn't amazing for subs, you should check out Absynth 4 (the sine sounds real meaty down the bottom end of the keyboard) and Spectrasonics Trilogy.

I never used massive for a sub, only leads. FM8 for atmospherics etc. I just find massive interfaces with my effect banks alot better than most things - and ive been using it long enough to jsut throw about clicks of the mouse to make what i want.

before making such a big post you shouldnt skim read
1. i like amds, its a fact that the type of amd processor he is using in the dual core dept does not compare to an intel core2duo
2. pound for pound "at the moment" you can put an amd against an intel and the intel will be quicker at rendering audio and video than an AMD

does that mean amds are bad at the job when you go into more expensive chips? hell no but the intels DO currently perform better. the moment an amd can perform better than an intel i will go back to using an amd chip.

you even say yourself

anyways lets leave off the nerdy stuff and just say

I didn't skim read, stating that AMD cpu's are inferior to Intel cpu's when you're comparing two different generations of processors isn't the smartest move. I wouldn't advise someone against buying an intel cpu for production because a phenom trounces a pentium 2 for "multimedia" purposes. Last time I checked "pound for pound" AMD still has the performance crown however for the best performance regardless of cost Intel wins by a long shot (and about an £80k difference in price :D ).

I've never used Live but from the videos I've seen it's a lot better looking than FL. FL resembles gothic lego, only thing it's got going for it is the step sequencer, ease of use, the mixer sends and the fact it loads up in a second imho.

MASSIVE BASSLINE TUTORIALS

Post by chili banks » Mon Feb 02, 2009 7:46 pm

One of the best programs (although very cpu hungry) Massive is a great program to learn, so I searched through a bunch of the online tutorials.
I posted a bunch of the better Massive tutorials on my blog, sorry don't know how to embed youtube here.

some of this may be redundant from other posts on this thread but....

1. ABLETON ROCKS!
2. Massive has every waveform you could ever want plus about 90 non traditional waves (use the WT position for pure sine , square, triangle... whatever)
3. To automate your lfo's... use the performer
4. If your cpu's getting bogged down freeze tracks that you're not currnetly messing with.
5. Brutal Electro is played
6. spread love ;)

its all about multicore processors, I was runnin p4 2.8ghz 2gb ram with an audiophile 2496and my pc would start having buffer problems with more than 2 instances of massive open, now running amd quad 2.2, 3gb ram and same soundcard and i can run 10 or more at once without an underrun, cpu very rarely runs over 30%

get meh
