krk rp5's vs tapco s5s

Post by j-sh » Tue Feb 03, 2009 6:13 pm

ive been looking at the krk rp5s for a while, and can't take two steps without hearing good things
but recently i spotted the tapco s5's which are a fair bit cheaper and also had a good review from sound on sound. They match up in terms of specs and i think the s5's has a higher maximum output.
Both also have matching subs which I can buy at some point in the future.
I know im going to be sacrificing something for paying less, but what is it?

Anyone got on opinion on this? I'd love to be able to hear and compare both monitors but unfortunately living in oxford thats really not an option.

Let me know if youve got either of this, even better if youve heard em both!

Peace :D

Ok Aku, it is settled; Quested S8R's for your new monitors! Tbh I don't know much about either of those monitors but I heard that everyone who is somebody loves samson rubicon r5a's. I've never been able to find the frequency response for said monitors so they may be lacking in the lower region.

I have RP5s and love them to death.

However ive never spent a huge ammount of time listening on other Monitors so probably not a huge help.

there is a lack of real bottom end, but thats allways going to be the case with a 5" monitor.

Couldn't be happier with them.

Don't be such a noob, they're blatantly out of his price range and he obviously wants some nearfields like http://www.meyersound.com/products/studioseries/hd-1/

I'll second this. I've got the s5s, and they're ok, but the s8s aren't that much more money, and you get a whole lot more for your money.

was going to buy the tapco's (made by mackie so thought they were gonna be good) was put off them by the guy in digital village said i was better off with the fostex pm1's listened to them, bought them, love them, plus apparently caspa had a set before he upgraded so cant be that bad can they?

Either save up for some Adam A7's or buy a pair of behringer truth 2031A's and a shit hot pair of headphones (http://www.dv247.com/invt/47663/ are quite accurate and very comfortable). The truth's destroy every monitor around that price range and that's a fact. They may not be particularly accurate ("accuracy" around that price point is a bit of a joke anyway) or honest but the frequency response is good and they are extremely loud. Couple them with a decent set of cans and you've got yourself a pretty decent monitoring setup.

one point to consider...

tapco are simply the "budget" branch of mackie...

KRK are not budget (though the rkts are their budget range)... if you're dead set on choosing between those 2 then i'd recommebt the krks...

have also heard good things about the fostex mentioned a few posts above...

but yeah, if you can possibly listen to a set... do it... though bear in mind that you want them to sound accurate rather than nice... the two aren't always the same :6:
