Im looking to invest in a drum pad, advice needed

I have been thinkign about getting one into my production purely because they are really nice to experiment with, had a go on one today, was getting some really nice rhythms down, I ran a quick search but couldn't find any immediate results

Can anyone recommend any, price range stretching to about £200

the korg padkontrol has had lots of good reveiws

also has an X&Y pad which i think is pretty cool.

or there is the akai mpd24

looks pretty nice and has some faders and knobs

i never used either but if i was to buy one i would go for one of those

Nice one, I checked out dawsons but I didn't think to check chemical records

I have the Akai MP32 and I like that. The pads feel great and plenty of midi assignable knobs, faders, etc.

I have an MPC2000 so it's a great transition for me.

M audio trigger finger, and i think its only around 100 quid as well.

the pads on the trigger finger aren't the best....

the padkontrol's pads are top notch...and there are all kinds of cool apps that people have made for it

cant speak for the mpd series but i hear good things

I own a padkontrol and the only complaint I have is that there aren't enough controls on it (2 knobs, an xy and 16 pads that are capable of sending cc data even though I haven't worked that out yet). I have heard that the pads are better than though on the mpd16 & 24 but I've owned neither and have heard no mention of the mpd32 (would like to try one out for the controls but my cme uf controller has plenty of controls). One thing I thing I will say is that you should definitely look into purchasing battery if you're getting pads as the two compliment each other particularly well etc etc

Akai's MPD controllers are really good. I have MPD16 and after 2 years of abuse (relative, passive aggressive-like) it still works.

Only problem with MPD16 (fixed with MPD24/32) is that it's good via MIDI only, no USB in Vista.

padkontrol by korg looks amazing. but get that or the akai one mentioned above. theyr recommended by alot of ppl

I recommend staying away from the triggerfinger if you want to use this live. The knobs and sliders are small and break off easily.

I'm actually waiting for one of these in the mail right now:

Had a go on one and it feels superb, it's got the heaviest price-tag out of all of them though.

You'll realise the padkontrol is head and shoulders above anything that will probably come out for a long time, including NI Maschine and MOTU BPM.

With farmpad, you can make any button/knob/xy control correspond to any control on anything that responds to midi. This means infinite possibilities for live play, but also means if you use something like Guru, you can fully control it like an mpc. So far i've used it to produce mouseless, DJ with ableton live, construct a 100% live set in conjunction with a keyboard, and use it as a step sequencer. But as I say, anything you want to be done with midi can be done, it's really as easy as reading the farmpad readme.

It's pretty easy to set up the Rock Band drum pad to work as a midi device if you want to go that route. Just plug it in and use joy2key to assign the drum pads to keys then use in your DAW.

got one of these and love it, he's like my little friend.

once he is set up properly you will have hours of fun.

just make sure he is set up properly
