GTR Solo is free for a year, its a bit CPU intensive but its a fucking beast.

Yeah, I don't understand all the hype about Camel Crusher... I've never managed to get much out of it at all... I'm obviously not using it right!

GuitarRig.

If you are looking for a fuzzbox type distortion.. I'd recommend

FuzzPlus 2.2
http://www.audiodamage.com/downloads/pr ... pid=ADF001

it's FREE. Also free from Audio Damage is their basic compressor, which can be overdriven to get some nice distortion as well.

Rough Rider

However, if you really wanna fux0r teh shit out of something, then I really recommend their multiband distortion unit. It is capable of pure evil (and only $49USD)

Kombinat

My favourite distortion plugin is either guitar rig or ohmicide. You can get really good results with both as you're able to layer sounds (ohmicide is multiband and guitar rig allows you to have more than one signal chain).
Personally when I apply distortion I usally eq the distorted signal to make room for more layers (sometimes filtering everything out except a small band). Sometimes it's also a good idea to eq before distortion with similar principles to pre subtractive and post additive eq for compression.
Basically don't just attach distortion to your chain and expect it to sound really think and amazing, sometimes it takes a little work and experimentation.

what are you guys using for reverb? I've always used the stanard logic and cubase ones... and I really don't like the cubase ones!

This: Reason RV7000

This: Glaceverb

&

This: KarmaFX Reverb

RV7000 is native to Reason only, the other two are freeware. Many people swear by Ambience, although I hate the GUI.
