Selling puchased mp3s??
Is this allowed? i mean im planning on selling my serato scratch.
And with me spending loadsa money on the tunes and just see them go to waste would it be alright to sell them with my serato seening as i spent money on them?
In other words its like selling vinyl but on mp3 format really.

Re: Selling puchased mp3s??
That is actually an interesting concept. Do you take ownership of a product when you make a digital purchase. I guess the answer is that most people wouldn't buy what they could get for the same price or free somewhere else and know it's not a rip or some other crap.seckle wrote:You're joking right?Wolverine99 wrote:Is this allowed? i mean im planning on selling my serato scratch.

If you tried to sell purchased mp3's on ebay, your auction would get pulled down immediately.Wolverine99 wrote:There proper 320kpbs, bought most of them from Junodownload.comSurface_Tension wrote:That is actually an interesting concept. that is a very good question... i totally get Seckle's reaction... and i was my own reaction at first... however... there's nothing wrong with selling on vinyl is there?
I suppose if you actually sold them on to only 1 person and deleted them all yourself then on a moral level you aren't doing anything wrong... but then again...
meh... messy subject

When you say you plan on selling your serato, do you mean your laptop (or whatever) with serato and mp3s included? Or serato with a HD full of tunes? I could see if you have the whole package maybe...but again messy subject... It might help if you have a transaction record with juno..or reciepts and whatnot...

the fact that you can sell digital software licences 2nd hand legally should not be ignored... i'm not sure technically if this compares when you buy an mp3... do you buy a licence to own and play that tune? you certainly don't buy the copyright or anything, but equally i don't think the labels/digital stores are charging for the mp3 itself, they charge you so that you can own a copy of the intellectual property (primarily at least) which in effect is a sort of licence i guess...
personally as a label owner, if someone sold a load of downloads on to someone else, and deleted it themselves, and there was no duplication involved (i.e. only 1 party ended up with the tunes) i would be fine with it... i can only speak for myself though.

ebay's rules about intellectual property.
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/int ... ty-ov.html
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/downloadable.html
as i said, regardless of showing proof of payment, by ebay rules, you wouldn't be allowed to resell these as the copyrights of the artists are being infringed.

not arguing with you... but does anyone else see that it's strange that they mind the artist copyright being infringed by sale of digital music (mp3 etc) but they have no problem with it being infringed when people sell vinyl and cds on there? strange world we live in... seems like there's a double standard for everything these days!seckle wrote:ebay's rules about intellectual property.

Fair enough... they have a point. I'm sure 99% of people who would be selling mp3s on ebay would be selling multiple copies which is completely wrong... I totally agree with ebays position on this... however, ebay's policies aren't the be all and end all of the law (or your morals) are they now?eBay wrote:The following items are restricted or prohibited because they would potentially infringe on intellectual property rights.
do what you feel i guess... but personally i can't see why you wouldn't just keep the tunes to listen too anyway... i mean just cos you don't DJ any more doesn't mean you're not gonna wanna listen to the music is it?

check the terms what you buy when you buy mp3s.
its basically a license for home/personal use. the reason behind being that digital property is tangible in a very different way compared to physical property.
a quick look at beatport would confirm this:
Through the use of the Digital Download Network owned website, you are permitted to listen to Samples (as defined below), and obtain Digital Downloads of sound recordings ("Tracks") and related digital content ("Materials" defined below). The Digital Download Network Service, Tracks, and Materials are only for your personal, noncommercial use. You are responsible for any hardware, systems and/or software program(s) you use and any associated fees and expenses (a) to connect to, browse or otherwise use the Internet, and/or (b) to access the sites on which the Service is offered, and/or (c) to browse, stream, download, play back, burn or transfer the Tracks or Materials accessible through the Service. The Service is not part of any other offering or product, and as such, the purchase or obtaining of any other product shall not be construed to represent or guarantee you access to the service. From time to time, you may have to install software, available through the Service to aid in the accessibility of Content.
hence... you're not allowed to sell your old mp3s.

its all a grey area, but ebay's not stupid. they'd be sued instantly if they let people resell downloadable copyrighted material.
on the itunes store, when you start an account, all those pages and pages of fine print contract you into "fair use" of the media that you download. most of the time, it's the hollywood definition of "fair use".

interesting!!
If they're all 320s and not vinyl rips, and you're selling Serato with them, I personally wouldn't feel guilty buying them if I was the customer.
its not the same as soulseeking them or burning CDs for your friends. its a trust issue though - you're giving up DJing, but you're not giving up listening to dubstep I bet!
nobody is going to take your word that you've deleted the original files.
sketchy. i'd feel a lot more comfortable buying them than i would selling them.
