Glitch Hop

Post by AFL » Sat Feb 14, 2009 11:13 pm

Everyone keeps saying that this is an off shoot of Dubstep but it's not. It's been around for years, long before Dubstep was even thought of.
Not to mention it's closer in tempo and rhythm to Hip Hop than it is to Dubstep.

Look up Prefuse 73, he's pretty much the don of glitch hop and has been putting out albums since 2000. Most specifically his Vocal Studies & Uprock Narratives album.

If there is a glitchy off shoot of Dubstep maybe it should be called Glitchstep ;)

anyways, anyone care to discuss this?

its definately not an off shoot.. but for me, going to parties in and around the bay area, they are very much associated; and when paired together at a party, make for a nice night with diverse sound..

theres dubstep that goes really well with glitch tracks too.. like starkey, or quarta 330, also bay area heads like heyoka and mimosa making glitchy trip hopish dubsteppy stuff..

I could see how they would cross over pretty well.
And personally I love to hear some glitchyness in my dubstep.

A buddy of mine who just recently got into Dubstep has been making some super glitchy dubstep. I'll see if he wouldn't mind my hosting some up for people to listen too (he mostly produces electroey stuff under the name JFI)
