I think in no way is this forum dead.

I do agree with this though

the forum is good, i wish everyone was a little more critical though. maybe i should start posting shit in production cuz all I want at the moment is to get really good at the more technical side of things.

what right do you have to label someone's music "sub-par"?

and why would someone put their music up here if they thought it to be "sub-par"?

also, why does it have to be about getting signed or released? there's some god-awful stuff getting released these days whilst plenty of great material gets overlooked because it doesn't have an instant impact on the dance floor.

All i can say is that the first tune we posted on here ended up being the tune that we founded Ranking Records on, and it was only because of the positive feedback and encouragement from the forum users that we knew there would be support for us elsewhere.

I too owe a huge debt to this forum...I've really only been involved in the dubstep scene for a very short time, and it was these forums that helped to give me the confidence to keep striving. Previous to when I made my first post here, I was feeling like I wasn't keeping up with the pack, like my tunes weren't good enough. People here actually took the time to listen and comment though (try being new and getting your tunes heard on DOA...hah!). I've received great comments and some invaluable advice via DSF.

Anyways, I didn't have time to read the whole thread, but to the OP....If you think this forum is bad, try pretty much any other genre-specific forum. We're actually quite lucky here.

much respect to everyone...i do have one suggestion for all you producers trying to get your tracks heard

don't make the listener work harder than need be to hear your tracks. myspace links and direct links are fine, but don't make me download w/o preview or even worse, send you a personal message. i don't want to wait 2 weeks for you to get around to sending me your track! i will have forgotten about it by then...

with that said, i'm more of a lurker here than anything. entertainment and information have kept me coming back..don't see how it's dead in any way. yay look at me...i got lotz of pegez of responses on innernet!

This is NOT a place where lazy, Tight, Plant-pot DJ's come to get free tunes.
Although this is a website that does offer free music. Ppl need to start putting their 2 penneth in. A bit of feedback doesn't ever go amiss.

We should urge people to feedback before they download.
Its always nice to know who's feeling your music!

The reason for this, is that people want to know peoples thoughts & views. You obviously don't produce, because otherwise you'd know that it's not nice to post a tune that you have worked hard on, For free, only for it to be ignored by lazy halftimers like yourself. How do you expect anybodies music to progress, if nobody helps them out or inspires them???

We do this is because we sell most of our tunes if not from our own store then though another label, and therefore only want 'x' amount of people to get a free a copy if we feel (because we're nice like that)...and even if the tune wasn't gonna be sold...you can still ask for a copy as far as i'm concerned..i prefer to be in control of it...rather than anonymous takers + plus it's free to you...it's not much to ask for

People choose to spend days+ on music using equipment they spent their life savings on, collaborating, thinking, straining eyes, losing sleep, growing a hunch back over, wether the outcome is to your taste or not...i dont think they could or should care less for the plight of somebody who has to go to such strenuous effort of requesting a copy...they made the tune...you're geting it for free...the only work you have to do is listen and ask for it. take it or leave it i say...if you like the music enough though, you will want a copy

Absolutely fucking spot on post.

If it wasn't for the dubs forum I may never have got my first tune signed. The feedback I received also inspired me to keep pushing at production, as well as giving me confidence in my sound.

i mean, i know the big thing around here is to have your thread hyped up before people even d/l the tune (aka bumping a thread asking for a 320)...

but how exactly would you feedback before a download?

i'll definitely leave feedback where it is needed. if i'm feeling the track, i'll pass it along to others.

but honestly, it's very annoying waiting for a track for weeks that turns out to be complete and utter crap.

there are plenty of producers out there who market their music for free. some people do what they love simply because they love it, and want others to enjoy it and possibly onto more things like bookings and signings.

Ive been around on this forum since 2003 (under forgotten names) but still, if you see a mix or a choon that has no reply's, its because its wack.

The heads on this forum unlike most other forms wont call out people for posting crap. Instead, they simply just walk away.

I personally respect that.

But saying things like, this forum is dead......not at all man.....check your self.
