Dubbed by URB Magazine one of "...five of the most promising up-and-coming (UK Garage) producers here at home", with several releases on vinyl, CD compilations, and digital distribution, and a dozen mixes gaining him exposure in other top music publications including, XLR8R, Mixer, Deuce (UK), and Undercover (UK), G Notorious has been pushing the sounds of the UK Underground in Boston since 1994. Starting as the fifth Jungle DJ in Boston with a residency at the legendary Jungle Roots/Sessions night and moving with the times to follow the twisting evolutions of UK Garage sounds from Speed Garage to 2-Step through Breakstep, Grime and the currently dominanting Dubstep and Bassline House. As always G is keeping an ear to the ground for new developments and strains, like the currently emerging soca-infused UK Funky House.
G Notorious currently runs Dubwise, first Sundays at the Enormous Room in Cambridge, MA which rather than following one genre or another explores the breadth of UK Underground sounds. He has held numerous residencies and run several other nights including DYNAMITE, LIVELY, and RUNNIN throughout his 14 years of DJing.
As a DJ, G Notorious contrasts soulful elements with rugged beats and heavy bass. He plays with a bias toward Reggae and Hip-Hop style vocals but represents the entire spectrum of sounds within Underground Garage. As an active producer, he often trades dubplates with various producers in the UK and in North America and has been serviced by various promo lists through the years. This provides G Notorious with the ammunition he needs to play live sets including an even blend of cutting edge promos, classic anthems, and unreleased dubplates. He has also written Garage record reviews for XLR8R and SoulChampion.com.
With his particular take on the UK Garage and Grime sounds, G Notorious has regularly rocked clubs, lounges and raves all over New England and New York. He has also played in Miami, FL, Dallas, TX, and outside of Chicago, IL
Despite the lack of solid distribution or a sizeable buying audience for the music in the United States, his original Garage and Grime material has received critical acclaim from DJs and press on both sides of the Atlantic. Several of his unreleased productions have been rinsed on UK pirate radio and charted by DJs on both sides of the Atlantic.
G Notorious also built and runs SoulChampion.com, the home of UK Garage, Dubstep, Grime, and Bassline in the United States and Canada. SoulChampion is an outlet for information about the music and North American DJs and producers of it, hosts a collection of North American produced original Underground Garage, Dubstep, Bassline and Grime music, provides a venue for discussion in the SouChampion Forum, and provides a launch platform for the SoulChampion Sessions Podcast.
