Behringer BCF2000 Controller Problem

herro,

right so I'm borrowing a Behringer BCF2000 off a friend for a while cos it's not being used.

I plugged it all in, opened up Ableton as usual, went to midi preferences..........doesn't recognise any input devices.

I have searched the internet and have found out there isn't a Vista compatible driver, so what the shit am I supposed to do?

Using Live 7 and Vista (no replies moaning about vista please)

Any help would be much appreciated!

lets try this
install a new driver - not from the cd, find on the internet,
then turn off the power safe on usb hubs
then disable cd rom, network card, modem and wireless

the one from the internet is the one which doesn't support vista!

Aye a friend gave me one of these, I basically just use it as an audio out with a volume control, shame as I'm sure it can do much more!

you would have thought that Vista has been out long enough for them to make drivers for it though....

It's pretty shitty Behringer doesn't make vista drivers. Then again why would you even run vista on a daw..?? Maybe you should do the same as i do, have two partitions installed on your pc/laptop.
1 with vista for internet and all non music purposes.
And another one with windows xp totally tuned to be a daw. You start up the pc / laptop and you get the two windows versions infront of you. Select what you want and here you go

You can even name the seperate partitions, mine are called "xp internet" and xp production".

You do have to reboot each time you want to use internet or make music. Internet will be turned off in the production partition. But hey, make music or do other stuff right!

It's probably not really what you're after, but it solves your problem.

I run 2 bcf's and 1 bcr. Behringer did a very good job on these (yeah they actually make good products sometimes.. lol).

If you don't want to go the seperate partition route, lose the usb and use the bcf with midicables...

Thanks for your reply, yeah looks like the only way around it is to install xp, but not as yet as this one is just borrowed, but I have used it at a friends house before, and I'm really interested in buying one! They're solid as anything to use, and have some nice features!

I thought the rule with Behringer was just anything that passes audio anyway, built quality can be quite good on some of their products.

If used with a midi interface what features are lost (if any) which are available otherwise?

I think the bcf and bcr's are the best "low budget" midicontrollers one can buy. Fully motorized and great built quality (mine are 4 years old already)
Plus they all work together, i use the bcf's for mixing, eq, panning etc. And the bcr for controlling synths and fx.

About the midi vs usb question:

As far as i know there's no real difference. Although i never really tried full midi connections without usb.

What i do remember reading somewhere is that you loose the following function in midimode:

You can run the bcf in a mackie emulation mode. It requires a combination of buttons. Don't know at the moment will look it up if you need it.
This enables the bcf to act like.. you guessed it, a mackie controller.
And off you go, no problems with installing and setting up the midi cc's etc. You will not be able to use this in midimode..

Don't take my word for it though! I'm not totally sure but it popped into my mind just now..

try to just install the drivers in vista. A friend of mine had some issues with drivers and vista (not bcf related though) but i just installed it, vista did say it wouldn't work but it did.

Nah I downloaded the drivers for it and ran them and it comes up "Not Vista Compatible" and that's it

Ah well, midi could be the way then!

YEah i think that's the only option for now..
It DOES take some time programming the whole thing though..
Hope you have some midi knowledge, cos the templates they provide are shit..

Saw this post after signing up for my own, non-work purposes. I'd like to take a shot at helping with this question, but I think that a full disclosure is in order first.

My name is Jim Savery, and I am the Global Service Director for BEHRINGER. I'm not here to rail for BEHRINGER gear or anything, I promise! I am a musician and a home recording enthusiast, first and foremost. I completely understand and respect the fact that this is not a commercial space. That said, I might be able to help on this one.

We are only talking about class-compliant usb drivers for device recognition, and the BCR2000 and BCF2000 both enjoy native support under Windows VISTA. As long as the screen flashes "1.10" when you power up your BCF2000, you know you have the latest version of firmware. Nothing else is required in order to connect.

I suspect that the problem might be related to the mode your BCF2000 is in when you are first connecting/installing. If you try to configure the BCF2000 in an emulation mode, Vista (or any software) won't see it as a BCF2000.

Try these steps to see if it helps:

Make sure there is no external USB hub attached to the system. Then,

1. Turn the BCF2000 off.

2. While holding down the first button on the top left row of buttons, power up the BCF2000. This puts you in a non-emulation mode
3. While holding down the EDIT button, press STORE.

4. Turn the far encoder on the top left (labeled "TYPE") until it reads "U-1".

5. Press EXIT

Once Vista has stated that the device is ready to use, go into preferences in whatever software you are using and make sure the software "sees" the BCF2000. It will identify it as BCF2000 or USB AUDIO DEVICE. You might have to uninstall any previous drivers or "fixes" first, depending upon what has been changed in your previous troubleshooting efforts.

Now please refer to the EMULATION MODES GUIDE, and/or the ACCESSING EMULATION MODES, and choose the correct emulation mode for the software that you wish to use.

Then tell the software that you are using whatever the device is that you are emulating, eg. BHUI (Baby Hui) or Mackie Control.

Thank you so much for your help, but for some reason, steps 1 2 and 3 are fine, everything is cool, but then when I turn the "Type" dial, nothing changes on the screen, it just continues to read "P- 1"

Any idea's?

If not I'll jump on the online help thing tomorrow when I get a chance, I have tried a few times re-reading the steps incase it was just me being an idiot but still no joy
