VINYL MASTERING AND RELEASE HELP

Dunno if this should go in this section but i need a bit of help.
I've had a few people asking if my stuff is out on vinyl yet cos they wanna buy it. But i don't have a clue where to start when selling my material and getting copies of the master vinyl.
I looked around online for a vinyl mastering service and they were around £60 for what I'm after and then they cut it too. Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost per copy of the master vinyl?
Also, not jumpin too far ahead but if I was to go on a label who would be paying out for the above? Cos my mate has a label and he says he pays out for the mastering and copies of CDs but when they sell he gets the first payments until what he spent is back to him, then the artist gets the rest.
But I'm gathering a lot of labels are different.

Yeah, I thought so, i will try to get him to do vinyls aswell, but i'm not sure if he will, he has always stuck to CDs and downloads.

most labels will recoup their costs then give you a percentage of the sales after that. the exact percentage is for you to agree with them.
£60 is very cheap for a master and cut, is it a reputable place?

Yeah, sorry checked it out again, it was dubplate cutting.
I don't really know much about vinyl and dubplates, I just produce but I did want to start releasing my tunes.

is vinyl more expensive than dubplates? Cos i also saw that the service was like 7 mins a side and £5 extra for each extra track.

you need to get your tracks properly mastered and then cut which is likely to cost £200+ depending on where you go. You then take the lacquer to a pressing place. they make metal stampers and then press onto vinyl. this may cost between £500-700 for 500 records, depending on the weight of the vinyl, the amount of colours in the art work and what kind of sleeves you want.
Its an expensive process so be sure you have distro and people who want to buy your tunes.

ok cheers for that, mate. The process is more expensive than i would have thought

Think I'll wait a while and release some 320 mp3s in the meantime.

It might be worth doing a joint release with some other producers. Keeps the cost down and may get everyone involved more exposure

Get your tracks off to a Label!!

thats what they are for, musicains anre musicians not business men.

If your tracks are good enough, and as you say poeple aksing where they can buy your stuff, then send them off to labels and if they agree then they will sort the vinyl pressing out.

Doing it alone is very risky, and you could end up with loads of vinyls you cant sell adn big debts mounting up.

This is what labels are for, they have a good idea what will sell and wont take soemthing on that will leave them with a lot of unsold vinyl (Well thats the idea anyways). Let them worry about it, if the tracks are strong then you will have no problem getting them picked up.
