Problem w/ Fruity loops 3... err

I've been workin with FP 3.5.6 for quite a while and am happy with it

Thought I'd try FP 6 to see if I should switch from one to the other.
Thing is, since I installed FP 6, when I use the 3 version, every sound that comes ou of it is extremely grainy and is unusuable :(

I would prefer not having to uninstall the 6 version because for now I'm enjoying it but I need the 3.5.6 as well!

Help greatly appreciated!
This is really getting on my nerves!!

could be something to do with the latency setting under the audio preferences.
