Which Monitors

Post by dublife » Fri Mar 27, 2009 11:17 am

I've started producing dubstep pretty recently but my speakers are beyond poor so I've been using my HD25s. However I think its time to invest in some monitors. I've got around £400 to spend and I've been looking at the Behringer Truth actives with matching sub, Tapco's with matched sub or Samsons, again with a sub.

Anyone got any experience with any of these? Also is there a place in London that I can go to try a number of monitors?

Nice one

I have the KRK Rokit G2s and have found them to be pretty damn good. The 6 inchers are a bit cheaper than their budget and they recieved good reviews in Sound on Sound, Music Tech, Computer Music and Future Music.

Nice bas and nice balance. Some people say that they flatter bass a bit too much but i haven't found that to be a problem if you use them alongside an analyser.

Care to elaborate? What is so great about them? I am kinda interested in them. Won't be able to afford them for a while anyway but the next purchase I would like to make it a set of monitors and I will spend no less than a grand.

Wait, didn't they quit making the A7s anyway? Maybe deal can be had tho hmmm.

Edit never mind, they still make em I was mistaken.

+1 for the Adam A7s.

I havent had a chance to use them extensively, but I had a chance to listen to them at the AES show in October. Extremely detailed highs and mids and bass wasn't lacking. Down the road you could add their matching sub if you want.

Tons of good things said about them on the internets
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're going to see some serious shit.

two of my friends have got a pair themselves, so, yeah, pretty good. sub gives me barely any room to put my legs under my desk though :)
I haven't even priced out the sub. I probably don't really want to know tho lol.

I don't think you need a sub to go with them. A knowledgeable producer could manage just fine with only the monitors.

They are an extremely honest pair of speakers, they do not color sound.

Great company, solid products, for their price nothing compares.

They are probably the cheapest professional monitors in my eyes. The other monitors are as someone put it just "over-hyped hi-fi speakers".

there's a smaller sub (sub8 i think) that my friend has, which is still quite big on the money but I bit easier and smaller. I'm just overkill and frankly i write my basses too damn low anyway so i'm a big fan of my sub
Yeah I write my shit pretty low as it is. Naw I'm not worried about getting the sub. Those monitors have pretty good specs in the lower range anyway. I mean that would be tits with the sub but I would have to take out a fucking loan.
