I use Reaper currently and while I evaluate it, I won't be paying for the full license fee. Once I have spare dosh floating around, I'm going to buy the full license.
Cracks are good for two things only; fucking up computers with trojans and viruses and making professional studios look unprofessional.
Demos exist for a reason, and often they are good enough to tell whether you want to shell out for a program or not.
The alternative is to use freeware, and I'm going to take this opportunity to promote the portable freeware studio pack I compiled.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cracks are bad, they stop people getting paid. Yes developers like Native Instruments charge more than half of us can afford, but they have developed some of the best music software on the planet (Reaktor, Absynth, Kontakt, Battery, FM7/8, Massive, Spektral Delay etc etc). Surely they deserve to get paid for their brain power and code crunching?
Along with the demise of the traditional media and music industries, unless we all suddenly go open source (which I don't see happening), we will see the demise of the bedroom developers too (who can't afford to pay for themselves through their passion cuz this is the real world)....
This touches on a larger subject, that of oil based economies fuelling the digital age. The problem with digital is we expect to be entertained for free 24/7. It costs money to develop media products, people need to eat at the end of the day. The price of oil goes up while the expectation of free media grows. Something is going to give, and I bet it is the oil first!
Rah!
Imo of course haha!

yes both cubase and renoise, though i do use a pirated version of sx3 because for some reason the software dongle emulation lets it run faster and more efficient then with the usb key
and cracked software is only gonna give you viruses and trojans if it's not a proper scene release from a trusted site or generally if it's a scene release that has been repackaged
also if the prices for some of these plugins weren't ridiculously high half the time or they offered group buys more often then piracy would probably go down

Yep, just recently bought Cubase 5. This is the first DAW I have bought. I was originally using some old, stripped-down version of Cubase that came free with my E-MU interface. It crashed on me about 90% of the time I booted it up, so I went ahead and bought Cubase 5 using the student discount deal they have.

if you're still a student you can generally get a discounteLBe wrote:I try to use mostly freeware, but a few pieces here and there on the DL. SX3 being one of them as I have yet to find a freeware to replace it and it is too expensive, though hoping to save up and get it paid for

I have a Renoise license and a cracked version of Traktor that I never use (shit is not worth $500).

I downloaded FL7 when it came out cause i wasnt really bothered about piracy then however its now delete fl 7 and shell out for fl 8 or find a freeware alternative. so in conclusion, fuck it, im keeping fl 7. i also had a cracked version of sx3 but i deleted it, it never got used and was just taking up space.
