Time stretching & Pitch shifting in Reason

Post by futures_untold » Mon Mar 30, 2009 4:06 pm

Ez all.

Just finished a new granular timestretching, pitchshifting & beat repeating set of Combinators in Reason. Just thought I'd share in the excitement with ya all! :D

Noice. How did you do that? I'm not asking for direct instructions just the basic idea.

I can't tell you right now cuz I'm looking to publish an article on how it's done. Needless to say, google & youtube are your friends ;) (that's how I learned how to do it!)

I've just pimped what I learned so it is more flexible and sounds better! Both Combinators can be used live too, there are no Matrix devices inside! :)

I bet you used the vocoder, cos that's how the real thing is done :)

I used the vocoder to create the ability to shift the formant of the sound. The rest of it is some simple shit! ;)

I'm not sure which is my favourite tbh. After messing about with these both for hours on end, they are both good in different ways.

The beat repeat one is funkalicious for drums, but the other one is good for proper granular stuff! :)

Futures - you're trying to get paid for an article on your technique. Can you explain that process to me?
On a wing and a prayer! ;)

Na seriously, I intend to cover not only how it is built, but the some of the theory behind it as well.

At the end of the day, many mags and newspapers just regurgitate the same shit. At least this article will be slightly different from the 'do sidechaining compression in Reason' articles already out there in the national press!!!

Nobody is asking you to buy the mag, but at the same time, for those with an interest in Reason, it might make for an interesting read in WH Smiths as you wait for your train! :)

Ps, I haven't sold the articles yet anyways, so nothing is final yet :(

Yes there are more than one way of doing this. youtbe will help answer some of those ways ;)

However, it took me well over 36 hours to suss everything so I could play it live without having to program the Matrix or sequencer.

My next project is to build a live octaver in Reason. If I can do that, Reason will become a serious tool for live guitar processing!

Happy exploring! :)

Yup. and yup

I can't figure out if you're being critical or not??? :o

What's wrong with writing for magazines? (Especially as I am unemployed right now)

I get the feeling you're feeling a little jealous

Some rivalry is always good. That's what pushes sick producers to get better! :)

one way to achive this kind of effect is to,

use the nn19

pencil in loads of 1/64 notes in the piano roll

automate the sample start on the nn19, so that each note triggers further into the sample

not sure if thats what is going on in the youtube video, but its somewhere
near!
