Drugs & Dubstep
Drugs & Dubstep
I'm a music student at Sheffield University and an emerging dubstep fan. I've decided to do some research into the whole dubstep movement for my first year project. It would be great to hear peoples opinions in relation to the use of MDMA to coincide with Dubstep nights.
For example:
1. Who may typically use MDMA?
2. When do you take it? How much? Cost?
3. What effects can it have? (positive and negative)
And any other information you think may be helpful towards my project will be greatly appreciated. Feel free to email mua08jlc@sheffield.ac.uk
Be assured its my obligation to keep personal details confidential.

your a uni student...doing research on....MDMA??....
ummmm i'd say the best option for you mate, is go out a have a bash at it yourself, you'll find out the mental, physical and financial cost alot easier!
if this is a graded paper you'll be marked on, then hats off to you sir, you smacked it with the 'project'!!
(i'll still vote man, all gravy haha)

I use to think taking class A's wasnt common practice at Dubstep nights but Ive noticed alot of out of place jaws at TTC, Detonate etc
Im guessing as the music has become more rave orientated and crowds have gotten bigger its probably become more common, who knows.
As for my personal experience it can go either way.

its not to do with the music and its content directly, MDMA generally makes the whole raving experience better as a whole. everything from the way the music sits with you, to how well your gettin on with people all improves...
sure music sounds better, as do alot of other things. your generally really happy and positive so anything good will feel much better lol.
but personally i dont find it makes the music appear any greater, i think of it the same. the only difference is you may feel like its more satisfying but thats just because your just generally very happy and your listenin to stuff that normally makes you happy anyways.
i dont think its anything specific with dubstep, its just electronic dance music in general. its always had that culture and its nothing new here, its just a continuation.

My dubstep and drugs experience and understand is quite narrow, which is why i appreciate replys from forums like this. From being at university, what i noticed was there was no "taboo" about taking drugs before hitting a night out, and people are generally quite open about it. By browsing around these forums, a few issues have struck my interest. One is the whole issue of should Dubstep be underground? As Dubstep gets bigger, are people like uni students taking something away from the music? I read one guy saying they that through ket, "confusion makes the music better", and other students say "you cant enjoy dubstep without being drugged up".
"Indie Kids and Twatty students are giving Dubstep a bad repution" was another quote that was interesting, and i can understand the 'snobbery' and bitterness haha.
thanks for your comments so far, very insightful.

This, sometimes mdma is good with it but if your taking drugs in conjunction with music acid is the one I'd say. Drugs work well with music but music built for drugs doesn't work without the drugs (obvious point I know), i.e hardstyle, yeah I imagine there are a few people who stay sober when listening to hardstyle but the majority of the audience are mashed out of their heads and the music is a backing for that. For this reason i don't like mdma with dubstep, I actually enjoy the music so I don't want to take a drug like that which makes you concentrate on how good you feel as opposed to the music itself.DID wrote:Personally i find it way too much of a ravey hype drug for a dubstep night. much rather have a joint and meditate on the bassweight
i originally had never thought of listening to dubstep while on an e, it would normally be drum n bass, rave, trance, etc. so one time while in my room, i decided to try out a bit of dubstep to see what it'd be like. it sounded so amazingly good that i started to have a panic attack! i had to change the music
so i dunno if that would be positive or negative...

I used to pop pills like candy while out at club nights (and sometimes not), but with Dubstep, I don't like it very much, it's something different. I appreciate the music so much, and the DJ's, that I don't need some peice of shit pill, which was most probably concieved in some seedy bikey's dank of a garage, to falsify my feelings. Generally, where I'm from, the vibe and energy of the night, combined with a ridiculous soundsystem, is enough to take my mind to another place, it's as if Dubstep's gives me a natural high in itself, and I can have just as good, if not, better time without suffering the next days dreaded come down of hell.
Just some booze, maybe get spliffed up a bit (that's a whoooole different story
), sub-bass, and i'm sweet as rain...
For some people, like many friends of mine, it's great, and they have a blast poppin' E's and listening to their favourite tunes, and maybe it's just my recent found hatred for the drug, but i'm just not feelin' the two combined.

To be honest, do as you see fit.
I dont get ppl that say they have to take a certain drug to understand a certain genre of music, thats just uninteresting. Ive been into all ranges of music but some genres ive kinda grown out of because I feel that the music is crafted by drug use ie, hardhouse and speed or psytrance and mushrooms, which isnt what enjoying music is about for me. I'll take whatever I want in different situations to enhance my already gained enjoyment of the music, not going out thinking about doing a drug but concentrating on the dj thats playing and the people that surround me.
Get some stellas in you and take it from there, explore as needs be and if u really wanna experience music at its most intense get it 70's, suckin squares of paper and let Mr. Cid open your mind!
Dont take drugs to have fun, Have fun and take drugs
