Nah you can use third party messengers which connect to the AIM network, like iChat, Trillion etc

And I'll say it again. Digsby is a new one but kicks the shit out of Trillian IMO. Works the same way but you can log into your gmail, facebook, myspace, twitter etc and get mini updates from the client. I also have multiple accounts of each gmail, aim and myspace and yeah you can have them up at once.
