LP-to-MP3 converter?

Post by ms hathaway » Mon Oct 02, 2006 8:43 pm

i happen to be browsing a random cataloge and it has an LP-to-MP3 converter. it appears to be a turntable that you plug into your laptop or comp, and you can play your records on it and it will convert into MP3. the brand is unidentifiable. anyone have one of these? does it work well?

i have some things on vinyl (punk rock, etc) that i would love to be able to listen to at any time, but i dont want to get sucked into a gimmick

? ? ? ? ?

you could always just record yr amped vinyl onto computer and convert the (wav) files to mp3 in an audio editor.
audacity is one that does that, and it's free.
u can just "save as..." an mp3 file.

just make sure the deck goes thru a phono-amp - like on a dj mixer or the phono input of yr hi-fi - on the way to the computer input, or it will sound feeble.

These where being advertised in a weekend paper a few months back. From what i could tell, the quality was shit. Really basic componants for the deck. I would do what Bedward says. I presume you have a deck you can use for this. Alternativly you could just down load the tracks you want off soulseek. If you already own the records there isn't a moral problem.

no website, and the name of the brand included a symbol, the asterisk, so i felt it was a bit dodgy. price $169 usd.

I don't use it. Although my mate does and he says you can pretty much d/l anything you want. And this guy knows some very obscure music.

Probably a good idea looking at the price.

Is there a moral problem buying mp3's rather than vinyl?

Surely if your paying for the track rather than just chaving it from limewire there isn't really an issue?

I dunno, what do people think about mp3s vs vinyl in a moral light?
