New to the genre - tell me which artists/tracks to check out

Post by mgpg89 » Mon Apr 06, 2009 5:46 pm

a friend introduced me to the genre and I fell in love with it, but I think I have only heard the mainstream dub artists / tracks so far, so I'm asking you guys to give me some suggestions on what to listen to, based on the stuff I already like:

fav tune at the moment: 'africa' by the others & '26 basslines' by benga

I got the FabricLive.37 mix by caspa & rusko and the tracks i like on there are: the terminator, well 'ard, cockney violin, africa, the legacy, cockney thug ...

thanks in advance!

Love it or hate it, a good bet is probably to check out the friend lists of artists you like on MySpace - sure you'll soon stumble on somethin you like!

...and of course there's loads of great tunes in the forums here- check out the dubs section and see if you can grab some 320s!

peace

really depends on what you're into, but seems you're liking the heavier side of things;

some heavier artists: Reso, 16Bit, Skream, The Others, N-Type, Subscape, Benny Page & Zero G, Nero, BAR9, Cluekid, F-One, Coki, Komonazmuk, Caspa, Crissy Criss, etc.

you should do your history too, imo;
check out a couple of old tunes;

Coki - Officer
Coki - Mood Dub
Skream - Midnight Request Line
Pinch - Qawwali
Loefah - Goat Stare
Artwork - Red EP
etc

really all the older Deep Medi and DMZ releases.

some of my favorite artists would be;

Hijak, Mala, Distance, Loefah, Breakage, Skream, L-Wiz, The Bug, Benga, Walsh, Coki, 16 Bit, Reso, Subscape, Caspa, Sukh Knight, Trolley Snatcha, Kryptic Minds, Truth, Kromestar, Von D, Mr. Lager, etc.

:wink:

two things I would do:

1) listen to mary anne hobbs' show and all the other radio shows that get mentioned on here

2) read www.blackdownsoundboy.blogspot.com

Prospecta and Gunjack. They've got good shit. Also, check out the Eesti dubstep packs and N-Type sets.
