MBox 2 as a sound card for itunes??
I know that the MBox is only made for use with pro-tools in terms of production, but is there a way i can run my itunes through it as well? At the moment i've got my krk's running into an old mackie dj mixer with phono cables and a jack to phono cable going from the headphone out of the mbox into the input of the mixer.
Its not ideal and i'm obviously not getting the most out of my system qualitywise by doing it this way, but i use my krks for listening to tunes as well as making them and this is the simplest way to do so as i just take the jack from the mbox and put it into my laptop headphone out when im wanting to just listen to some tunes.
I heard one of my mates mentioning he uses his 002 rack as a soundcard for windows media player but wondered if there was any way i could configure my itunes to do a similar thing with the mbox?

You on windows?
If you're on Apple you need to go to System Preferences > Sound and change output to you Mbox.
For Windows I guess it's the audio settings in control panel. I use an 002 rig to play stuff on my MacBook, the only prop is you can't use preview though so have to preview all samples through Logic, iTunes etc.
good luck, let me know if you do it.

you mean you need any digidesign / M-audio hardware to run protools?Depone wrote:you can route any sound from your mac and pc through any usb/firewire interface, just switch the settings. and Mbox is not exclusively for protools, yet you need any digidesign hardware (mbox and higher) to run protools
yeah you've kinda got it the wrong way round. The M Box will work with anything, Protools, Logic, Cubase, itunes, whatever, its just Protools that won't. The version you get with the M box will only work with the M box, if you get that M Powered protools it will work with any M-Audio soundcard. There stnuc for that really, its kinda like 'Yeah heres an affordable version of protools, but your only allowed to use this basic soundcard', I got it a few years ago when I didn't really know what I was buying I quickly realized its limitations, sickened.
I had the M Box 1 which is really shit, no midi port, 2 inputs and 1 stereo output. Its the kinda soundcard ya'd pick up for £20. Well the pre-amps where alright in it. Doesn't make much of a difference when your music is more electronic based music.
