need dub techno recommendations

Post by mrgerbik » Tue Apr 14, 2009 5:17 am

I know next to nothing about this genre; what artists and releases should I check out? Andy Stott is amazing; his recent material is exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for... big, lush synths/pads/textures with a futurist mentality... please point me in more of this direction!

If you're talking about actual dub techno (as opposed to techno influenced dubstep) the first things you should check out are Basic Channel and Maurizio.

If you like Andy Stott (and to be honoust, who doesn't), you just need to check the new album of Pendle Coven ! ! !

edit: The other tips are also very nice!

martinah pretty much summed it up there.

the do not resist the beat ep is something you should check out

the intrusion series on echocord is fantastic

as was said basic channel are the best place to start, if you don't buy vinyl, or even if you do, you should check out the "scion arrange basic channel tracks" CD on tresor

also the label scion - all substance/vainquer material - top notch

the persona album by MOKIRA on TYPE is good, very minimalistic though, not as atmospheric as other stuff mentioned above.

the Ray of Hope ep by Quantec on echocord would be a good one to check out, as assuming your into dubstep, it has a 2562 remix.

the X Dub II ep on syncom data, by Ovatow is lovely too

also there is a ep by the composer Francesco Tristano, Auricle Bio (spelling?) with remix from moritz von oswlad - i'd highly recommend this too

if ur into the echochord stuff, another project by them is called intrusion, check out the album "the seduction of silence". very dub influenced and has Paul St. Hilaire on a few tracks.

as for other stuff, any thing on the modern love label is pretty much gold. also mikkel metal, model 500 (aka Juan Atkins) and deepchords colab are well worth a look. :D
