Is it fair to say that Oney made that mash-up style popular in recent years? Certainly at dubstep nights I can't remember people (other than Kode, of course - and even he didn't play that much garage) mixing it up like that before him.

Someone should put on a night with all the DJs mentioned in this thread on the lineup... ahem House Party Redux ahem

yeah i'd say so. seems to be more people trying stuff like this which is cool, deffo an inspiration to me.

The fact that these guys are all technically great and can also light up a party without playing any of the jumpup dubstep that some of the bigger names from recent years play sets full of is great.

Going to a night and not knowing quite what it's gonna be like, who is going to go and what you're going to hear is what it's all about for me, I'm bored to death of knowing that if I go to a night where DJ X is playing it'll be kids moshing to identikit chainsaw noise.

I think this is a bit of a lazy cliche really.. no sendage against you stanton but what nights have you actually been to recently that are actually like this?

I mean FWD line-ups have been STUPIDLY diverse for over a year now, and i haven't been to a single DMZ that has been an all-out wobblefest, and couldn't really imagine it. Seeing as those are the two biggest dubstep nights and neither of them fit the bill of "kids moshing to identikit chainsaw noise" it's hard to see where you're coming from (again, no sendage!). I guess if you go to a dub police takeover at fabric it might be something like that, but still.. just don't go to those nights innit..

anyway anyway, for me it's pretty clear that Oneman's shows from 2006 onwards have been pretty instrumental in bringing about a garage resurgance, at least within the dubstep community. blatantly there were enough people who listened to his show and were like, rah 2-step garage is actually sick. i don't think it's a coincidence that this coincided with a the return of 2-step and swing as viable options for dubstep producers, especially for the younger labels such as Hessle and Soul Motive.

that's why i think these three DJs are so important: the fact that they're so technically good means that people take notice of them, and the fact that they all play such a mash-up of styles helps to prevent people from seeing a limited set of possibilities within dubstep / bass music..

thanks for the mentions, its very nice to hear

in the context of repping garage within dubstep United Vibes need recognition in my opinion. they are also now going on to create their entirely own vibe

there are loads of amazing djs out there though its hard to compare or rank in many cases

out to ALL the great djs!

To be honest I've been well slack this year for going out to dubstep nights, that said however... I should have made it more clear that I meant DJs at nights rather than whole nights, and not that my opinion matters but I'm not going to berate anyone's selection or whatever on here. I'll sometimes leave the room when some DJs I used to love come on now, I don't like the tunes/selection/style and it's not the kind of vibe I'm after. My point was that DJs like these guys are really exciting, in a similar way to how Kode9 is, and it's great that they're all technically brilliant DJs too so they are getting more recognition.
