When the topic is so limited in the case of dubstep. What else do you expect to fill up this board. People have discussed every single little aspect of dubstep to death. Everyone is about shameless self promotion on the net whether it be myspace or whatever so its no surprise. The newbies do it and the big boys do it so what's the difference?

I for one do see both sides of the coin on this topic..It is lame to see excessive bumping of threads for releases that are pretty known as far as when it came out and who's on it. I dont hate tho' especially if that label owner has to move those units. It's a business and they have a bottomline and probably needs to get rid of the current release to even think about putting out a new release. It's the nature of the game. But there is no need to remind everyone every five seconds.

Seeing as how I run the internet's ONLY ALL DUBSTEP netlabel I look at forums as a way to get the music heard..In fact I would bump that thread a billion fawkin times if I think it will shed light on the artists I have faith in. But that shit aint cool after so long..Obviously because it spawns threads like this.

But seriously ..If its a vinyl release or a digital for that matter when money is a factor by all means bump that shit. Just don't overdo it..

If it bothers you ...Skip over it man(or woman)..It aint hurtin nobody.

I don't mind stepping over one dog shit, but when a herd of cows comes to town it gets a bit perilous.

It really sucks because it's so full of those CAPITAL OMG NEWWW DUBZZ!! stuff It's litterally impossible for me to get even ONE person to listen to my tune.

Just because i'm like "New dub tune..check it out, feedback appreciated!" you know?? I dont want to stoop so low and I really don't think my tunes are good enough to be selling myself all crazy-like, but it sucks that I cant even get some feedback. And I spend a lot of my time on here listening to other peoples music and gaining knowledge from others, and when I ask for something small in return from people that i really respect I get nothing!

Maybe I'm just ranting and of course theres no way everybody is going to listen to everything but It's just a bummer really..

This reminded me of this quote
Steve Albini wrote: As a consumer of music as a fan, when a band is thrust at me in this fashion and wiggled like a grotesque severed head then it makes me hate them, it makes me less sympathetic to what they're trying to do
High quality artwork, something in a calm honest sounding press release that hints it subject might be something are what draws me to artists myspace etc which may lead to beatport or an online vinyl store. Sometimes if somebody make a interesting point about music in a post I'll click their banner. Sometimes if somebody acts the complete muppet in a post I'll click their banner but the knives will be out.

edit: This is in response to ikeaboy's last post

ok, that's you...people have different ways of being swayed

There are plenty of ways to promote material, and not all of them are going to be the most ethically sound or integral. Doesn't change the fact that some of the more dubious forms of promotion work wonders(this forum is no exception...).

The unfortunate truth remains...many folks up here won't give anything the time of day unless they get a thumbs up for that material from a source they trust. For many people on this very board, it is VERY difficult to get someone to even take the time to listen/pay any attention to what wares they're trying to hawk. Is it best for that person just to give up? Of course not(and this leads into something I read earlier on this thread that's really dumb, not everything that gets ignored on this mb is automatically bad quality...). They have to keep fighting for attention. This just leads back into my earlier front-running comment.

gotta agree that when a noob comes to the site asking "whats a good dubstep tune?" or "who are the top dubstep producers?" or whatever, its super gay when people post up their own tunes.
