Jesus, this is a classic example of hijack and trolling... If you want to start a mac vs pc, os x vs windows argument, start a new thread.
Asking here does not pertain to the OP's question or problem. He owns a mac, for whatever reason, and has a question about using it.
It doesn't matter why we choose OS X over Windows or any other os, it doesn't matter that it costs more, that you are of the
opinion that it looks better or worse, the simple fact is we own and use macs. DEAL WITH IT and stop trollin.
My response isn't directed toward any one person, so don't get butt-hurt. Just saying we need to put our petty differences aside, check
our egos at the door and be resourceful and constructive. Oh shit, I forgot, this is the internet
I suppose its just the faggy, rich, starbucks drinking, hippie within... My bad. I'm gonna go fap to the iPhone 3.0 keynote now.

i don't think it was viruses - my old XP system used to crash about once a week i suppose. (sometimes a random freeze, sometimes audio would drop out until you rebooted etc) but it was a combination of stuff - i bought a 2nd hand MIDI keyboard which despite downloading all new drivers etc etc never worked properly, no matter how much i tried. when i went to a Mac it worked from the first minute, without having to install any drivers or anything. stuff like that -hardware not playing ball - can easily cost you an afternoon, so you don't have to value your time very highly for that lost time to mount up!nowaysj wrote:I don't know what the problem is w/ this. Its gotta be viruses or something. Since I switched to XP on PC in like 2003 (drop the beat) I've just been rock solid. I occasionally crash fruity out, but that's always my doing. My current pc has been w/out blue screen for its whole life- 6-7mths. My xp laptop bsod'ed once in maybe 2005?setspeed wrote: the time it has saved me in terms of crashes and getting things working/installed has already saved me more than the price difference.

U and I are living in parallel, but inverse universes. We better never meet, lest we destroy all space and time.

i dunno, i think there's the inertia aspect too. remember that it's only recently that engineering swung so heavily towards computers (and it's only relatively recently that windows became remotely user-friendly). most of the professional engineers that I know over about 35 learnt their craft on analogue equipment. they're not techy, they know how to load logic and that's about it - so there's no point in changing your whole studio setup to go to PC if it's gonna leave everyone scratching their heads all week....8 out of 10 people are douche bags.Depone wrote: 8 out of 10 professional music studios will have an osx based system.
Fact
Fact.
Way back when, Macs had an advantage in moving around audio, to my limited knowledge, based on the the TI chipset they used in the firewire buss. And even before that, Macs have always been marketed as the arts/education computer.
I truly believe that is just a pardigmatic impression that has stuck with people all these years from the birth through growth of the personal computer.
But bottom line, re 8 out of 10 - I think that is because that's the way it was and people just copy what they think is legitimate so that they will also be considered legitimate.
I switched to a Mac over a year ago.
Yes there a less plugins and synths available but all the best stuff is out there, Native instruments etc. I too have focused more on a limited number of instruments and found it really advantageous with regard to learning each instrument. Also there are loads of free vsts out each month.
My Mac doesn't crash, my pc was a volatile piece of shit.

I would love to see you back up your 3x price argument.

nix is nowhere near competing with windows or osx when it comes to audio productionWhineo wrote:both operating systems have their pros and cons

and, no offense, most of the arguments for and against are from people who haven't even scratched the surface of either

My buddy just built a system last week w/ better specs for $1100, which is almost to the dollar 3 times cheaper (though with more power, but close enough).
When I built my system about 6-8 months ago, it was closer to 4x.
mekha - go put your surgical mask back on.
(that's the only argument that Mac needs to put up against PC)
You could build a mac for cheaper too. The price argument really only applies to pre-built systems.nowaysj wrote:http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/s ... co=MTE2NjQcollige wrote:I would love to see you back up your 3x price argument.
