Also here is the Dem 2 - Destiny 2-step beat fruity loops file. Do NOT uncompress the zip file when you've downloaded it.
Open Fruity in the normal way, do File -> Open, then browse to the zip file and choose the "open" button, and everything should load up and be in the right place.

Anyone tell me how to sue triplet grid in reason? a beginners guide would be hella useful - i set it up but then don't know where to place my hats

once uve changed ur grid to tripplets, stick ur kicks and snairs where u would usually place them then stick the hats where ever u want really. You got to use ur ears and hear when things are right. Tripplet beats often have a skip to them. If uve managed to get ur grid onto triplets then the rest is up to u mate, the patterns u create within that is an artistic thing really, not a technical thing, so its all down to your tastes and what u wanna do. Theres no hard and fast rules. If u really cant get a functioning beat going within the triplet grids, then here is a little screenshot of a redrum track from reason for u. Now if ur anything like me ull have like 6 redrums linked in all manner of ways with untold samples in each one, but what ive done here is simply the beat down, we just got kicks, snares and hats in the gaps. Set ur grid to 1/16t (16th note tripplets), ur tempo to 70bpm and replicate this pattern. Once uve got the basic pattern going u can fill out the sounds with different hits and what not as u see fit.

Note, this is 70bpm taking up 1 bar, if ur halfstepping it, use 140 or whatever, use 1/8T and make it go accross 2 bars, should be self explainotry. This beat pattern would work straight up at 140 too if u were going for a garage type thing.

ull notice tripplet beats tend to sound slower than a beat at the same tempo using straight 8ths/16ths, it sort of breaks the beat down to quick skips and extended pauses, which give it an odd feel timewise.

this forums here to ask for advice, and different people need different levels of advice.

the guy obviously know what triplets sound like, cause he realises when he tries to emulate this technique, hes not quite getting there. no need for you to bust his balls just because hes never heard them referred to as triplets before.

i know i dont post here much, but im always reading, have been since i joined, fucking aaaages ago. shitty snobbish attitudes like this are the reason i dont post here much, and im willing to bet im not the only one who feels the same. its a shame really, we should be helping each other develop, yet some people would rather just make others feel small and inadequate.

sorry for the rant, but someone did exactly the same thing to me when i posted a question a while ago about hi hats, and theres no fucking need.

triplets are 1 single kind of swing-- and if they're dead on, they're just as square as straight-8th.

you need some manner of uneven swing. if you can find some mpc grooves on the web (there's tons of them in midi form), that's a great place to start. otherwise, even using the more-extreme swing settings in reason will get you closer to a solid, bubblin' groove than straight-up triplets.
