correct me if im wrong... but i dont think tony actually dies in the last episode- it just (v successfully) evokes the mood that he might in the v near future and when he least expects it and he will have to live with that paranoia and anxiety for the rest of his life

the fact he was with his family and they were doing sutm v 'everyday' and 'normal' (ie. in a diner) just added to that

was a deep ending still

nah i reckon his death is the only way it wouldl make sense.
once of the most over arching theme of the whole series is the futility of death, like how you make all these plans and ultimately you could just die, 'its all a big nothing' to quote livia soprano.

also if you look at the last episode you see everything almost from tony's point of view. Everytime the bell of the door rings you see what tony would see.
Bell rings - you see carmella come in from tonys perspective
Bell rings - aj comes from tonys perspective
Shifty guy goes to the bathroom
Meadow has trouble parking
Bell rings, tony looks up - Darkness

True true, but if you read what david chase says about the last episode its almost definite that tony does die at the end.
He points to the episode stage 5 (where jonny sack dies of cancer) and that dude gets shot in front of sylvio and you see the blood splash all over him in slow motion - and sylvio says later 'i didnt even realise what had happened til he hit the floor'
and also he talks about the episode with tony and bobby in the boatt.
I defintely wouldnt have come to that conclusion if i hadnt read chase's comments on it but still, i reckon the only conclusion that would make sense would be tony's death.

Yeah that def makes sense but i think open-ended interpretations are far more powerful.

I watched the first couple of episodes and it didn't really catch me, but i reckon having watched sopranos i might appreciate it in a different way.

you might need to perservere to get into it a bit but its well WELL worth the effort

yeah this.
it takes a while for it to get started. the 1st few episodes are all about character development.
