More like pro tools than like reason - so that people with the money will buy both reason and the new daw and use rewire to make a propellorhead super set up.

thats my prediction
That would make sense. Though I have a feeling that this is what they think the future of the company will be. Reason will still be used for years but I think it's day has just about been had. It's part of the reason I quit on it. They needed a complete rebuild not the shit we got with v4.

hmm, it's time for me to learn a daw rather than fruity loops, was gonna go for sonar or maybe cubase, but this sounds like an intresting start.

This is a big roll of the dice.... they've got a LOT to live up to with things like Logic, Ableton and FL etc around.

Think I agree with the people saying they should've worked on integrating Reason a bit more...

I started out on Reason 1.0 and its been rock solid since the beginning. And if they are announcing it now, it means they've already been working on it for a while and its at a point where they can actually show it. I suspect it'll drop within 6 months to a year. I really really hope they make it modular the way that reason is, though that introduces lots of problems in terms of latency management, especially when dealing with feedback loops and such. I agree that unless its something really new and interesting, its too little too late.

i was lucky enough to see it in action today at the propellerheads producers conference

must say it looks absolutely superb

although i left reason for greener pastures (Cubase, reaper and now logic) a good couple years ago i am seriously tempted to go back.

i even fired up reason 3 today and made a beat in it, i was that inspired by the new software

although the audio looks great, the real killer for me was the SSL mixer - wow. awesome awesome mixer.

If they can keep the fun and make it a daw, I'd switch dood.

Fruity isn't fun, its extremely powerful, pretty quick, but not fun.
To me Ableton is fun. It isn't pretty really but it's intuitiveness is would makes it fun for me. Same with Reason when I used it. My work flow was soo fast. I am much faster even in Ableton. Getting results is what makes it fun. And there are countless X-Reason users that made the jump. Are you really that brand loyal that you are going to consider another prop-heads product over all these other choices? I wouldn't and you see all these new sequencers popping up. I saw this real quick, it looks pretty neat http://www.presonus.com/products/Softwa ... twareId=11 I just think they should have done the full DAW thing years ago. Tough market to enter right now imo.

I am a brand loyalist in general. Its kind of like friends. If you have a friend that you know well, you know what you can expect out of them. Likewise, if you know an ass, you know you're likely to get more ass out of them. Like I don't like AKG. I don't like their mics, so I'm not gonna go out of my way to check out their headphones.

Anyway - I'm not loyal to reason. I've only just started fooling around w/ it after fooling around w/ the reason 1 beta round about a decade ago.

But I've always had fun in reason. I don't even understand why, cause its actually pretty frustrating sometimes having to set up 20 patch cables to get a sound you're after, but still, for whatever reason, I just like being in there. I don't know what it is w/ fruity - I know it really well, and with my tried and true tool set in there, I can get to where I want to go pretty easily, usually. But, something about fruity, I just kinda get claustrophobic in there or something. I just don't like being in there all of a sudden.

Yeah, I think I was reading about that briefly. Seemed to me like cubase (without ever having working in cubase). If you're going to make a plain vanilla daw, I think, fugget about it. I just think prop is probably gonna bring more to the table.

Rebirth back in the day was f'ing huge for computer music.

Reason was revolutionary.

Props daw.... I'd really like to see and hear it! Did somebody say ssl mixer?
its not gonna be a DAW - it WONT support VSTS. But it WILL allow audio. Its not a new program either, its an expansion for reason.

Its gonna be pretty cheap and well worth it for the amazing mixer and simplicity of recording and importing audio into reason.

That makes total sense except for the fact there is no VST support. People have been crying about 3rd party plug ins for Reason since version 1. At least folks will be able to use audio lanes. I am not sure how I made tunes for so long with out it. Still I understand why they would go this rout. You will never be able to self contain the entire project if 3rd part plugs are thrown into the equation and that is still the one thing that they have going for them.

+ being able to use the DSP of the line6 modules + integrate the line6 software is a pretty massive tool

At first I was all like way too late, who cares. But after watching that vid...man, I cant wait to get this! Just thinking of ways to tweak my turntable now :D

Wonder if you need 4.0 to import the devices, still on 3.0
