mate you are a close minded idiot. stop listening to dubstep because its 'alternative' and 'cool' and listen cus you fucking like it

you fucking twat
wow... i dont listen to dubstep because its "alternative" or "cool" as you put it... i listen to dubstep because i like the music. why am i a close minded idiot? i dont like lil jons music in any way, and if he begun making dubstep, i'm quite sure i wouldnt like that either. Snoop doggs take on dubstep wasnt worth listening to if you ask me, and i really dont think lil jons attempt would be any better... I just predict that the sound of "crunkstep" spiced with "yeah"'s and bling bling attitude, really wouldnt be my cup of tea... elitist? i really dont think so... talking about elitism.. pretty much every one in here hates pendulum, for "raping the dnb scene" and so on, and thats not elitism then?
so you think that this will 'turn' dubstep?

get out.

Am I the only person that thinks dubstep doesn't really have mainstream appeal?

Most heavyweight dance music doesn’t have mainstream appeal. You don’t hear proper dubstep, jungle or minimal techno on the radio and you won’t get it in the charts. People who basically make tunes to play them to their mates or hear them at specialist club nights have a different attitude than people who are driven by the idea of touring the world playing to tens of thousands at a time.

As a style dubstep is uncommercial with the hook generally being a bassline instead of a vocal. Then there’s the added bonus that even the more immediate tunes with catchy vocals or synths sound like shadow of themselves on the radio because you can’t hear the bottom end. Basically, it’s not going to happen.

YES! Thank you, my sentiments exactly. People around here act as if it's the end of the world that people outside this forum know about dubstep, so what snoop dogg heard eastern jam, who cares. it's not like in 6 months time chris moyles is going to be playing sine of the dub at 8am on a monday morning.

yeah its like if blue peter did a feature on morris dancing - doesn't mean next week all the kids'll be dancing about with handkerchiefs even tho some might buy some clogs and do it for a week or so

all the morris dancers'd be pissed off that the other ones had sold out while others would be pleased for the exposure

in the end all the morris dancers would have a pint of real ale and a dance about and forget about their differences while the kids carried on doing whatever it is they like to do

maybe amongst all those kids there would be a couple of legendary morris dancers of the future who stick it out and end up changing the world of morris dancing for good with their new crazy dances, but thats another story altogether...

That’s probably a good thing in economic terms. If he did millions of people on their way to work would get all existential and go home for a spliff and a cry.

What about when Benga & Coki - Night was on the radio during the day practically all the time? It was on the tele just as much on all the shite music channels.

And now everyone's (read:regular "indie" folk) going nuts about this shite Skream remix of that tune which will inevitably lead to people check out more stuff.

It's been happening for ages guys.

Even if it ever does magically "get shit" and "mainstream" as all are saying, it's not happening right now.

It's like how you know your mother will eventually die...you don't cry your eyes out each time you see her for the next 30+ years because you know eventually she is going to die, you enjoy the time with her.

So why all the bitching about something that MIGHT happen off in the future? Start moaning and groaning when the time comes and it's a bigger deal than a few tracks from some washed up US rappers...come on now...

Yeah, and M-Beat’s ‘Incredible’ was on Top Of The Pops in 1994. Didn’t kill drum & bass did it?

I suppose I should have made a point rather than stating facts. It doesn't make the slightest bit of difference whether tunes chart or not. It doesn't even make a difference who's listening to stuff as long as it's still being produced.

Why is everyone defending Lil' Jon, but not Snoop Dogg? When Snoop Dogg Millionaire was released you would be hard pressed to find someone defending him or mainstream stuff. Yet when bad talk of Lil Jon comes from someone, literally no one agrees with that person.

Is it just me, or are there a whole lot of hypocrites here?

Whys it matter, theres still loads of good producers, just listen to them. If skreams in for the kill song is mainstream it doesn't make it any less good. Dubstep wasn't gonna stay underground forever, its too piggin good.
