Nu-Frontier - Crossing vibes in techno & dubstep divides

Post by jibba » Thu Apr 16, 2009 8:05 pm

NU-FRONTIER

...is a concept looking at giving people the chance to see those alternative sets that get played in backrooms, secret gigs and arfter parties and get talked about on forums but don't often see the light of day in main club rooms.

Essentially Nu-Frontier is about crossing musical divides and showing that seemingly different underground music scenes like techno and dubstep can gel together. Our aim is to invite guest DJ's and live acts who will attract techno purists, dubsteppers, house girls and drum & bass heads alike all to the same dance.

Nu-Frontier is about straying from the formulaic, keeping things open and freeform and keeping clubbers on their toes. And what better venue than Brighton's famous Digital club; with it's awesome Funktion 1 soundsystem and future bound decor, a perfect setting for artists to showcase their alternative musical tastes to a wider audience.

MARCUS INTALEX
(90 minute techno and house set)

An ideal first choice for guest DJ at Nu-Frontier. The Soul:R records and A Bunch of Cuts.com head honcho clearly likes to dip his fingers in many musical pies, and will showcase his skills playing warm house and techno for the first time ever in Brighton. Anyone who has listened to his critically acclaimed downloadable set from the RAM records party at 'The End' club, will know how great a prospect this is set to be. For a full 90 minutes, Marcus will tear up the Digital dance floor with some seriously deep techno and upfront house. Don't sleep on this one; surely the only way to kick start your Brighton bank holiday!

MR LAGER & ALYS BLAZE
(Live PA)

A strong contender for dubstep tune of the year already, Mr Lager and Alys Blaze's haunting 'Tell Me' has been rinsed on dubplate for months, yet still gets an overwhelming crowd reaction whenever it's dropped in the dance. With support from the likes of Skream, Mary Anne Hobbs, Giles Peterson, N-Type and it's champion Chef this tune is only the beginning for these two. Mr Lager has countless tracks ready in the pipeline, receiving support from Appleblim and Ramadanman amongst others, whilst Alys has been gaining strong interest from some of the biggest players in dubstep; with all of them after her sultry and soulful vocal hooks.

EMILY WILLIAMS

Long standing resident at one of Oxford's best house and techno nights 'Simple', Em is a real crowd pleaser with her seamless mixing, ambitious and varied tune selection and notable crowd interactions. Of recent years, Simple productions have teamed up with house, breaks and techno heavyweights 'Slide' and 'Eclectric' to form FUSE nights which regularly sell-out the 1000 capacity Carling Academy and have twice earned a top spot in Mixmag's - top three nights in the country. Find out why in a rare away performance from the Oxford girl makin' waves!

JIBBA & DARKMAN

Both charismatic and technically able behind the decks, these two plan to warm up the show nicely with their weighty and tech-infused dubstep making the most of Digital's Funktion 1 sound system.

Firstly a big shout to all those who made it along. As I'm sure they'll say; musically it was spot on, but it just wasn't as busy as we'd hoped. Lots of students still handing in their essays and coursework obviously had a bigger impact than expected on our crowd numbers.

Still, the vibes and people were spot on and Marcus in particular smashed it! The set even topped his RAM records one from last year IMO.

Big ups to all those who helped make it possible especially all the guys at Digital.
