Famous CDR Club Music Night Comes to Leicester’s Sophbeck Sessions
Free music club night comes back to Leicester

Sophbeck on King Street, Leicester, is playing host to CDR Leicester – a free and celebrated club music night for digital music makers, DJs and music producers on Thursday 21st May from 9.00pm-2.00am.

On the night, people can turn up and hand over CDs of their own tracks to get their music played live and loud to an audience of like-minded music makers and music industry peers.

A night of ideas and tracks in the making, CDR Leicester will also feature DJ sets from local Leicester-based music producers on rotation, including Cardiac, Psykhomantus, Pure Phase, Jimi Oh, Biscuit Tin Soundsystem and Dushume.

Gavin Alexander, co-director of http://www.burntprogress.com, the creative gurus behind CDR, said: “CDR Leicester is open to music makers and producers of all styles and provides a great platform for Leicester talent to get recognition, network and collaborate. It’s also a brilliant club night for anyone into listening and dancing to new music.”

CDR Leicester is one of a series of club music nights and creative seminars taking place in the East Midlands as part of CDR East Midlands, a two-year project, supported by Arts Council England.

Bringing together a new community of digital music makers to network and collaborate across the region, CDR nights are taking place in Leicester, Derby and Nottingham throughout 2009. The nights are based on burntprogress’s hugely successful CDR night at London’s Plastic People – twice nominated ‘Best Club’ on Radio 1’s Worldwide Awards – as well as other cities across the UK and abroad.

More CDR Leicester nights will follow this year at Sophbeck Sessions on 16th July, 15th October and 26th November as well as CDR nights in Nottingham and Derby. For more information, cdrw@burntprogress.com or check www.myspace.com/burntprogress.

Notes to Editors:

About burntprogress and CDR
burntprogress is the name of the creative agency set up by Tony Nwachukwu, music producer, DJ and music technology educator. A former member of the band Attica Blues, Tony has worked with the likes of Macy Gray, UNKLE and Ben Folds. Co-director Gavin Alexander is an award-winning film and TV producer, who has made short films and arts documentaries. He is also a DJ and self described all-round culture junkie.

CDR provides a platform for electronically savvy music producers, artists and music fans to hear and share new ideas, beats, mash-ups and remixes with like-minded people in a venue with a great sound system. It was created out of a need to develop a music movement operating outside conventional structures, by sharing experiences, demystifying technology and broadening horizons beyond playlists, genres and charts.

Dushume
Dushume is an electronic artist from Leicester. He is heavily influenced by his British Asian culture and enjoys exploring a mixture of sounds from various backgrounds especially in the experimental Asian underground field.

Cardiac
Before moving to Leicester about three years ago, Cardiac had been DJing in London for over eight years, having spun at major hotspots including Fabric, Turnmills and the 333 club.

He started producing tunes at the tender age of 12, creating multi-track style recordings of his cheap Casio keyboard using two tape recorders. Later on came sampling using a special alarm clock, and making tape loops from cassettes. The second phase consisted of simple loop-based music made with a Yamaha QY70, leading to the current phase of music making, based around laptop computer. Now living in Leicester Cardiac continues to forge forward with his production skills creating innovative far-reaching beats.

Pure Phase
Pure Phase is a collaboration made up of James Kelly and Spencer Tron. Pure Phrase makes mostly dubstep and try to keep things experimental both in the studio and live.

Jimi Oh
Born and raised in Leicester, Jimi Oh has been dabbling in making music since 1989 with the usual tape loop experiments. Releasing two EP's of deep house in the early 90's, he collaborated with a folk singer in the late 90's and is now working on new material.

Psykhomantus
Psykhomantus has over ten year’s DJ experience, and has been collecting records since childhood. With a deep rooted and diverse background in music, Psykhomantus has the ability to amaze his crowds by manipulating or restructuring any classic record to produce a new composition from its original form. His set ranges from Hip-Hop, Break Beats, Rare Grooves and Soul to Classic Funk, Nu-Jazz and Broken Beats.

Psykhomantus continues to represent the DJ culture throughout his gig’s (Abosolut Mantus, Tablist With Sole, Donuts, V.O.I.C.Express), mixtapes (Future Sole Editions), and theatre (A Hip-Hopstory to High Skool High) and live shows. His love of music shines through on all projects, whether it’s with shortMAN, Loob Lover or his own solo projects.
