Andrew Weatherall

Post by suppressor » Sat May 09, 2009 6:25 pm

My fave DJ of all time. I remember seeing him CLEAR the floor of posers in the early 90s as he took the decks over from the likes of Rampling or some other disco house 'DJ'. Weatherall regularly opened his set with a good few minutes of slow, hard, heavy, bass drenched squelch to sort the music lovers from the twats. All sorts of surprises - I remember hard ragga being mixed with 'Bankrobber Dub', such low and heavy bass runs I thought my ribs would shatter, moody men from the burbs in leather trousers steadily head nodding at the back. Dubstep owes A LOT to this man - I was listening to mix tapes from early 90s last week and he plays it slow, hard and heavy. Sabresonic was groundbreaking night - anyone remember?

Sabresonic was amazing! the queues though

saw him on my 21st birthday at Turnmills with Jedi Knights and Chemical Brothers, he played a set that combined electro, italo and acid

his Back To Basics and Fabric mixes are two of my all time faves

and, erm TWO LONE SWORDSMEN and RGC = legends

Yeah I've seen him loads of times. He recently did a 7" Rock'n'Roll set up here in Edinburgh.

I've got a fantastic compilation album of his called 9'O Clock Drop. People should check it as it has some grand tunes on it.

Legendary DJ/Producer is Andrew.

Just picked up a 7" by Honkeyfinger with an AW mix on it. Don't know much about Honkeyfinger at all ...apart from he is a blues dude from Bethnal Green who sports a long beard and plays an electric gtr lap-style. Its a good sound anyway ... chaotic and crude.
AW's kind-of rockabilly comp for Soma was pretty good... but one of the best rockin comps was the one that Keb Darge and Cut Chemist did for BBE...'Lost and Found'. Anyway.., I witter on... always got time for Weatherall.
